The Momentum Proteas are raring to go for their clash against a tricky Pakistan side in their second fixture of the ICC Women’s World Cup on Friday morning (match starts at 3 am).

The Proteas Women’s side had to sweat for victory in their World Cup opening game against Bangladesh, where they had to rely on the brilliance of seamer Ayabonga Khaka, who took 4-32 against and was named the Player of the Match. With that haul, Khaka reached 100 ODI wickets.

Speaking to The Citizen ahead of this clash, this is what the star bowler had to say:

“The mood in the camp is good, we are fully focused on what we need to do against Pakistan and we can’t wait to get out on the field.

“We haven’t been working on too much. We are just working on getting the basics right. We are looking for a complete performance against Pakistan and we want to do well in our bowling, batting, and fielding.”

While Proteas Women will only be playing their second game at the tournament, Pakistan Women will be on their third fixture having lost against India and Australia in their first two games. With those results, Pakistan Women are stuck at the bottom of the 8 team table. Once all teams have played each other, only the top four sides will progress to the semi-finals with the winners meeting in the final.

To qualify for the knockout round or to go all the way, Proteas Women vice-captain, Chloe Tyron, says they’ll need to start playing their best cricket against Pakistan Bay Oval, in Mount Maunganui.

“We’ve played enough cricket around them (Pakistan) to know what we are up against, and they have players who can take the game away from us. We just want to make sure we are playing our best cricket.”
