KwaZulu-Natal communities were left distraught after recent floods wreaked havoc and destroyed their homes. Roads were flooded, preventing motorists from getting to and from their houses, whilst overflowing rivers caused extensive damage to properties and bridges, leaving people stranded.

As a result of the heavy downpours, 306 people lost their lives with the death toll increasing, whilst over 200 schools remain damaged. Many communities are without water or electricity, and the true extent of the flood damage is still being unravelled.

In an immediate response, the Hollywood Foundation launched their #HandsOfHope campaign, pledging R1 million to provide swift relief and give hope to communities in various areas around the province that were severely affected by the floods and adverse weather conditions.

By partnering with key foundations in KwaZulu-Natal, such as Ntenga Foundation and Domino Foundation, as well as several other organisations within the community, the aim is to reach people who are in dire need as quickly as possible.

“At the Hollywood Foundation, we are always ready to offer support and give hope to people who are in need. The recent floods left many of our communities in KZN requiring urgent assistance. These funds will go towards providing immediate relief in the form of food, blankets and clothing parcels,” Rasigan Naidoo Hollywood Foundation CSI Manager.
