With relentless fires ravaging vast hectares of vegetation and homes, causing widespread destruction and displacements, the Foundation is stepping in to provide critical support to the firefighting efforts.

The Western Cape has been grappling with multiple wildfires, particularly in the Cape Winelands and Overberg districts. The situation has been exacerbated by hot and windy weather conditions, posing significant challenges to containment and mitigation efforts.

In response to this urgent need, the Hollywood Foundation has pledged R50 000 in support of fuel for the Volunteer Wildfire Services (VWS) in Cape Town. This contribution aims to bolster the resources available to the brave firefighters on the front lines, enabling them to combat the blazes more effectively and protect vulnerable communities.
The aim of this pledge is for the VWS to act swiftly when a crisis emerges and not have to wait for funding to perform their heroic efforts of helping the community when it is in need.

Speaking on behalf of the Hollywood Foundation, Public Relations Officer, Vuyisile Ngobese emphasised the importance of collective action in times of crisis. “Our hearts go out to the Western Cape community facing the devastating impact of these wildfires. As an organisation committed to supporting and protecting our community, we stand in solidarity with those affected and express our deepest gratitude to the firefighters and emergency responders working tirelessly to contain the fires.”

The Hollywood Foundation’s contribution underscores its commitment to making a tangible difference in the lives of those affected by natural disasters. By providing vital resources and support to frontline responders, the Foundation aims to mitigate the immediate impact of the wildfires and assist in the region’s recovery efforts.

Jenny Scheffers, Chief Marketing Officer at Volunteer Wildfire Services, “As the VWS relies solely on the financial contributions from both public and corporate entities, we are exceptionally grateful to the Hollywood Foundation for this generous donation towards our fuel costs. Donations of this magnitude provide relief to our organisation’s operational costs, enabling us to focus on responding to wildfire callouts throughout the Western Cape to best support our various partners.”
