Race 3

There are two unraced runners in the field, so a keen eye should be kept on the betting markets to get some indication as to whether the connection believe that they can win first time out. Any betting support for either or both of these runners should be respected. Of the raced runners, HYPERTENSION may prove to be the best.

His last five runs have yielded two seconds and two third place finishes and he stayed on well last time out when posting one of those third places over 1430M, four lengths behind the winner. The form of that race has stood up well with five runners out of that contest subsequently winning. The gelding returns from a 25 week absence and has not had a barrier trial, so his fitness will have to be taken on trust, but he gets draw six and could be the one to side with in this line-up.

BUCKIN’ RIPPA came four wide into the home straight, but made good late progress to end up in third place last time out over 1100M, just under three lengths back from the winner. He faces a wide gate ten out of twelve, but he should be doing his best work late.

Although SUPERFIELD is recorded as finishing sixth last time out over 1100M, he was just over three lengths adrift of the victor. He has a kinder gate four and returns from a 19 week break, but has not had the benefit of a barrier trial, but on the other hand, he does have his first run for his new trainer. If fully settled into his new surroundings, he should give a good account of himself here.

Race 4

DEFACTOR finished ninth in his last outing over six furlongs, 4.8L behind the winner when returning from a 15 week rest, but was reported to have been slow to recover. He would have come on with the run under his belt and will be hoping to bounce back to some of his better form. He jumps from draw six and should be right up there when they hit the line.

FURPHY overraced in the middle stages and was bumped entering the home straight before ending up in twelfth spot last time out over seven furlongs, 7.2L back from the winner and was immediately rested for 18 weeks. He was also reported to have lost both of his hind shoes during that race. He returns here without having had a barrier trial, but with better luck in running today, he should keep the top choice honest.

ELECTRIC DRAGON is a 4yr old filly taking on the boys, but she has consistent formlines to her name and finished fifth in her latest outing over 800M, 2.2L back from the winner and the form of that race has been franked. She is drawn one inside the latter and should be included in all bets.

Race 5

The day’s best bet, VIVYN is a 4yr old filly taking on males, but she is a speedy sort who won her maiden race over 1300M by seven lengths and could be just about anything as five runners out of that contest have subsequently won. She returns from a 29 week break, but has posted three encouraging barrier trials to showcase her well-being. She will have to negotiate draw eleven, but she could prove too good for this field.

BRAVE NICK returns from a shorter 25 week rest and has also had the three barrier trials. He followed up his penultimate run victory over 1710M with a second place finish next time out over 2020M, beaten one and a half lengths, notwithstanding coming three wide into the home stretch. He gets a kinder draw six and could prove to be the biggest threat to the top pick.

ANDY finished well to win his maiden race last time out over 1210M by 1.8L at the third time of asking. The gelding takes on stronger here, but he is lightly raced and could well be up to the task at hand from his cozy gate three.

Race 6

NANAKOROBI YAOKI is a 5yr old mare taking on boys, but she showed marked improvement to win her last start over 1310M by 2.3L. She showed plenty of toe that day and if able to confirm that effort, she should give the boys a good run for their money. She has to contend with a wide draw ten, but on the credit side, she will have 4kgs taken off her back thanks to her claiming apprentice and as such, she is made the value bet on the day’s program.

HOSTWIN TORONADO has cracked pole position and won his maiden race last time out over six furlongs when putting four and a half lengths between himself and the opposition, despite overracing in the early stages. He kicked clear of the field as he entering the home straight and the race was over as a contest from that point.

SELLING SUNSET is a 3yr old filly who battled all the way down to the wire when finishing second last time out over 1310M, 2.2L behind the winner. She has pulled gate two and will have her peak run after returning from a 17 week rest.
