Race 5

This looks to be a tricky race to start off the day’s Jackpot with plenty of runners in with a realistic chance of finding the winner’s box, so some caution is suggested. The tentative top choice goes to TORUN who was bumped shortly after the start and found himself at the rear of the field, but he ran on well in the home straight, despite only seeing daylight at the 200M mark, eventually finishing third, just over two and a half lengths behind the winner. That was over five furlongs, so the extra ground on offer here should be to his liking. He does return from a 23-week absence but did finish second and third in his two barrier trials to prove his fitness. His handy draw four will do him no harm.

FUMIKO is a 3yr old filly taking on the boys, but she won over six furlongs on debut and then ended up in fifth place last time out over 1300M, just under three lengths back from the winner. She returns from a shorter 14-week rest but did finish second in her only barrier trial. She jumps from a wideish gate nine, but she should give the males a good run for their money.

MARSHALL DILLON put four and a half lengths between himself and the opposition when going from jump to wire to win last time out over five furlongs. He has his first run since a 30-week break, but he has had the benefit of three barrier trials, winning the last two to showcase his well-being. He has pulled a wider gate eleven, but should not be easily overlooked in this line-up.

Race 6

The day’s best bet, GREAT NEWS has consistent formlines to her name and followed up her win three runs back with two second-places finishes, the latest over 1100M, just a neck behind the winner when returning from a 20-week absence. She came five wide into the home straight that day but finished strongly over the closing stages of the contest. She will have to negotiate draw fourteen, but she is likely to be dropped out of it early and then start to pick off the frontrunners over the latter stages.

MORE PROPHETS had her consistency rewarded with a one and a half-length victory last time out over six furlongs. She came three-wide into the home stretch that day but was staying on well at the business end of affairs. She has gate ten but could emerge as the biggest danger to the top pick.

CHARLEISE on the other hand has cracked pole position and missed out on her hat-trick when finishing second in her last outing over seven furlongs, 0.8L behind the winner and the form of that race has been franked. She should be involved in the finish.

Race 7

LAURE ME IN has solid formlines to his credit, winning his latest outing over ten furlongs by half a length. He battled all the way down to the wire that day and from draw six, he is expected to turn in another honest performance here. As such, he is made the value bet on the program.

INVERLOCH kept chasing before ending up in third spot last time out over ten furlongs, just a length back from the winner. He faces a wideish draw nine, but if he is able to confirm that last effort, he should be considered a big runner here.

BERDIBEK has finished closer to the winner in each of his last three runs, culminating with a head victory last time out over a mile. The win was full of merit as he was slow away, before over racing in the middle stages and finally only getting a gap at the 300M pole. In addition, his jockey put up 0.5kgs overweight. He is however drawn the widest of them all in gate eighteen, but nevertheless, he should be doing his best work late and should be included in all bets.

Race 8

PEARL ROAN is a 6yr old mare taking on males, but she went from gun to tape when winning by two lengths last time out over six furlongs. She is a speedy sort who is sure to appreciate the drop in trip and from draw six, she may prove to be difficult to reel in over the closing stages of the race.

THE DRAKE is drawn one inside the former and showed good improvement when finishing strongly to end up in third place last time out over six furlongs, just under a length back from the victor. A repeat of that last effort would see him right up there in the firing line.

MR POLAR is seldom too far off the action and showed plenty of toe when finishing fourth in his latest outing over six furlongs, one and a half lengths back from the winner. He, in turn, is drawn one inside the latter and will get 3kgs removed from his allocated weight courtesy of his claiming apprentice to aid his cause.
