Race 4.

There are two unraced runners in the field, so keep an eye on the betting markets to get some indication as to whether the connection believe that they can win first time out. Any betting support for a runner or runners should be respected. Of the raced contenders, RHYTHMIC SONG may prove to be the best. He is a speedy sort who has finished second in his last two starts over this c&d, the latest when beaten a short-head. He attracted plenty of betting support that day and despite a wideish draw eight, he will be hoping to make amends here and as such, he is taken to be the best bet on the day’s card. NO DEBT jumped awkwardly when finishing seventh last time out over 1100M, 3.2L behind the winner, but the form of that race has stood up well with three runners out of that contest subsequently winning. He gets draw five and has his first run for his new trainer. If fully settled into his new surroundings, he should give a good account of himself here. SUMO has finished closer to the winner in each of his last three runs, the latest when finishing well to end up in fourth place over 1100M, just one length adrift of the victor. He is drawn the widest of them all in gate seventeen, but nevertheless, he should be doing his best work late.

Race 5.

With the late scratchings of two of his main rivals, the door may have opened for CASTLEBAR ROAD to chalk up his third career victory. He goes for his hat-trick after victories over five furlongs and the latest over 1100M by 0.8L. He does return from a 25 week break and has not had the benefit of a barrier trial, so his fitness will have to be taken on trust. He jumps from a wideish gate eight, but he should be right up there when they hit the line. RANUNCULA is drawn one inside the top choice and followed up his penultimate run victory over five furlongs at this track with a fifth spot finish next time out when stepping up to six furlongs, just under two and a half lengths adrift of the winner. The gelding was making good late progress that day and has won a subsequent barrier trial to enhance his claim for top place. DON’T QUESTION ME is a 5yr old mare taking on the boys, but she has made solid improvement in her last three runs, the latest when third over six furlongs, just over two lengths behind the winner. From her handy draw four, she should be included in all bets.

Race 6.

HONEYWINE won his penultimate start over a mile by three lengths and then finished well to be beaten a short-head next time out over seven furlongs, notwithstanding coming four wide into the home straight. He gets a cozy draw four and could be more suited to this mile trip. RIDERS INTHE STAND is a 5yr old mare taking on males, but she has consistent formlines to her name, finishing second over this c&d last time out, three lengths back from the winner. She tried to go from jump to wire that day and from a handy gate two, she is likely to attempt similar tactics today. WINTER MOON on the other hand will have to contend with a wide draw thirteen, but he sat just behind the leaders before finishing well to win his last start over a mile by some one and a half lengths. He should use that early gate speed to move across without expending too much energy.

Race 7.

Two 5yr old mares could fight out the finish to this race and complete the exacta, but the day’s value bet, DENACE is taken to lead the pack home. She is seldom far off the action and raced up with the leaders before ending up in third place last time out over six furlongs, just under a half length behind the winner. She jumps from gate four and should turn in another honest performance here. TELLS TAILS won her penultimate outing over five furlongs and then finished fourth over the same c&d next time out, 1.3L back from the winner. She stayed on well that day and whilst drawn wide in gate fourteen, she is quick enough to ease across without using up too much gas. DAREDEVIL has a far kinder draw two and put 3.8L between himself and the balance of the field when winning his last start over five furlongs and was immediately rested for 63 weeks. He returns here after finishing second in his only barrier trial. The fact that his connections have brought him back into racing after such a lengthy absence would seem to suggest that they believe that he still has something more to offer them.
