Race 4

Three 3yr old fillies could fight out the finish to this race and secure the trifecta, but with the late scratching of one of her main rivals, the door may have opened for PETULANT to chalk up her second career victory. She finished second on debut over this sprint distance and then made the expected improvement to win by a length next time out over the same trip, despite hanging out on the home turn. From her handy draw four, she looks to be the one to side with here.

RUPERTAAR is a speedy sort who has won two of her last three runs, the latest over five furlongs by a neck when returning from a 20-week break and the form of that race has been franked. She faces a wideish draw nine, but on the plus side, she will get 1.5kgs removed from her allocated weight courtesy of her claiming apprentice.

TELLURIDE won over this sprint trip three runs back and then put her disappointing penultimate effort firmly behind her when finishing fourth last time out over 1100M, just over two lengths behind the winner. She was returning from a 43-week absence that day and the fact that her connections have brought her back into racing after such a lengthy absence would seem to suggest that they believe that she still has something more to offer them. She will have to overcome a wide draw eleven but will have ex-SA jockey Glyn Schofield in the irons, so she will get all the necessary assistance from the saddle.

Race 5

Fillies could once again dominate the finish to the race, but in this case, two 4yr old fillies. The marginal top choice goes to KIBOSH who missed out on her hat-trick after winning over 1500M and a mile when dropping down to 1100M, finishing just under a half-length adrift of the victor when returning from a 25-week break. She showed plenty of toe that day and from draw three, she should enjoy the extra ground on offer today.

NEVER SECOND has won two of her last three starts, the latest over six furlongs by 1.3L. She went from jump to wire that day and starting from gate six, she is likely to adopt similar tactics here. She will also be having her peak run after returning from a 15-week rest.

OSAMU is the stable companion of the latter and followed up his penultimate run victory over 1100M with a fourth spot finish last time out over five furlongs, 1.8L back from the winner, notwithstanding coming four wide into the home straight. He was returning from a longer 24-week absence that day and the form of that race has been franked. The colt is drawn one outside his stablemate and will have 3kgs taken off his back thanks to his claiming apprentice to aid his cause.

Race 6

The day’s best bet, BACCHANALIA goes for his hat-trick after victories over six furlongs and the latest over 1100M when putting three lengths between himself and the opposition. He came three-wide into the home stretch that day and then hit the front at the 200M pole to win going away and the form of that race has been franked. He will have to negotiate gate eight, but he should use his early gate speed to move across without expending too much energy.

KING OF SPARTA is seldom far off the action finishing third in his latest outing over six furlongs, 1.7L behind the winner, but he had to be held up between the 300M and 200M that day, so should have finished closer to the winners than he officially did. He has won a subsequent barrier trial and from gate six, he will be hoping to provide Glyn Schofield with his second winner on the day.

BEND THE KNEE has cracked pole position and has won two of his last three runs, the latest a short-head victory over seven furlongs, but he did win over today’s distance three runs back so the drop in trip should not be an issue. The form of that last contest has stood up well with three runners out of the race subsequently winning.

Race 7

EXPAT went from gun to tape to win her penultimate outing over 1300M and then finished ninth last time out over the same distance, six lengths behind the winner, but she was subjected to a vet examination after the race, but nothing abnormal was detected. She gets draw five and will be having her peak run after returning from a 19-week rest and is taken to be the value bet on the day’s card.

BROOKSPIRE had her consistency rewarded with a 2.3L victory last time out over seven furlongs. She raced up with the pace that day and then kicked clear of the field at the 220M mark, effectively putting the race to bed as a contest. She jumps from a cosy draw two and could emerge as the biggest danger to the top pick.

ZOU DE MOON is drawn one outside the latter and showed solid improvement to finish second last time out over 1500M, just a head back from the winner. She hung out over the final 50M of that race, so can be considered an unlucky loser and should be included in all bets.
