Race 5

The powerful Chris Waller yard could complete the trifecta here. AHURIRI is a 3yr old filly taking on the boys, but she has only had two runs to date, finishing second on debut over 1300M and then third next time out over seven furlongs, just over a half length behind the winner. She struck the front at the 150M mark that day, but then hung out and was run out of it late. She faces a wideish draw eight, but she would have come on further with that run under her belt.

JURISPRUDENCE finished third first time out over 1250M, just under two lengths back from the winner. He would have learnt from that experience and with the natural improvement that can be expected and from gate six, he should be right up there when they hit the line.

KAPAKIRI put his disappointing penultimate start over 1550M behind him when finishing third next time out over a mile, just under a length back from the winner. He came three wide into the home stretch that day, but finished off his race well. The gelding gets the blinkers re-fitted for today’s run and if this move has the desired effect, he should be a big runner here.

Race 6

SPACEWALK has cracked pole position and had his consistency rewarded with his third career victory last time out over 1100M, albeit by just a neck. He raced wide without cover throughout in that contest, but was still able to finish off his race smartly. He does return from a 16 week break, but has had two barrier trials, finishing fourth in the first and second in the latest. The engaging of champion jockey James McDonald is encouraging, and he is taken to be the best bet on the day’s card.

EXTREMELY LUCKY jumped awkwardly bumping another runner and found himself towards the back of the field, but he finished strongly from some way back to end up in fifth place last time out over 1100M, just over three lengths back from the victor. The gelding has his peak run after returning from a lengthy 47 week spell and a change of trainer and from a handy draw four, he could emerge as the biggest threat to the top choice.

ATHELRIC is the stable companion to the top choice and was hampered at the 200M mark when finishing tenth in his latest outing over 1100M, four lengths off the winner, but that was in a Group 2 event, and he was returning from a 15 week rest. The gelding is drawn the widest of them all in gate eight, but will get in-form apprentice, Zac Lloyd, son of ex-SA champion jockey, Jeff Lloyd in the irons to aid his cause and he makes a solid back-up for the yard.

Race 7

CAPITAL HEART won over five furlongs three runs back, finished second in his penultimate start over 1100M and then third in his latest outing over six furlongs, 1.8L behind the winner, but he had nothing go his way that day, jumping awkwardly, having to be eased off the heels of another runner at the 400M pole, before not getting the clearest of passages in the home straight. He has a useful gate two and with better luck in running, he could return to winning ways today.

YASUKE followed up his penultimate run victory over a mile with a sixth place finish next time out over seven furlongs, just over two and a half lengths back from the winner, when returning from a 14 week absence. He jumped awkwardly, finding himself towards the tail of the field on that occasion, but finished strongly over the latter stages. From gate six, he will be hoping to chalk up his third career win.

CONVINCEBILITY is a four time winner from nine starts and has finished second in his last two outings, the latest over 1550M, just under a half length back from the winner. He tried to go from jump to wire that day and with a 3kg claiming apprentice aboard and from his cozy draw three, he is likely to attempt similar tactics today.

Race 8

Two 4yr old fillies could fight out the finish to this race and complete the exacta, but WRITTEN IN CODE is taken to lead the field home. She had solid form prior to finishing tenth in her latest outing over six furlongs, just over eight lengths adrift of the victor, but she did jump awkwardly that day and never really got into the race after that. She has had the benefit of two barrier trials, finishing second in the latest. Whilst drawn wideish in gate eight, she will be hoping to bounce back to winning ways today.

DEMIANA was returning from a 16 week spell and hung out approaching the home turn, but stayed on well to finish second last time out over 1100M, three and a half lengths back from the winner. She is sure to put her pole position to good use.

JEDIBEEL has consistent formlines to his credit and followed up his penultimate run victory over 1100M with a second place finish next time out over the same sprint trip, 1.2L back from the winner. He came four wide into the home stretch that day, but the form of that race has been franked and whilst drawn wide in gate ten, he should turn in another honest run today.
