PARIS-LONGCHAMP BEST BETS SUNDAY

Race 1 No2 SIMMERING
Trainer: Ollie Sangster – Jockey: Dylan McMonagle

Zarkava’s granddaughter ZARIGANA has looked the real deal in winning her first two career starts but will need to be as good as her tall reputation suggests to outpoint SIMMERING. The Too Darn Hot filly was an impressive winner of the Group 2 Prix Calvados at Deauville and the form of her defeat by Lake Victoria in the Moyglare Stakes now reads very well following the latter’s Cheveley Park Stakes triumph. She’s going to relish the step up to a mile, and rates a serious threat to the long odds-on favourite.

Race 2 QATAR PRIX JEAN-LUC LAGARDERE (Group 1)

No3 FIELD OF GOLD
Trainer: John Gosden – Jockey: Kieran Shoemark

Kingman colt FIELD OF GOLD is poised to give a good account in this historic race, and in so doing provide his trainer with plenty to look forward to in 2025. He was an authoritative winner of the Group 3 Solario Stakes at Sandown in which he travelled beautifully before putting the contest to bed. The grey has excelled in his subsequent work, and though this is far from easy he can repel the challenges of HENRI MATISSE and RASHABAR.

Race 3 PRIX DE L’ABBAYE DE LONGCHAMP LONGINES (Group 1)

No7 DESPERATE HERO (Each Way)
Trainer: Jack Channon – Jockey: Callum Rodriguez

The importance of a low draw is huge on the 1000 metres track here and connections of DESPERATE HERO are delighted that the grey is to break from stall 6. Few sprinters possess his degree of pace over four furlongs, and that makes him a player if he looks lively at the gate. He displayed speed to burn when leading his field on what turned out to be the wrong side of the track in the Flying Five at the Curragh, and now that the boot is on the other foot he could prove hard to catch. BRADSELL and BELIEVING have better recent form which makes them a potent combination against the 33-1 selection in what can prove an English domination of the contest.

Race 5 QATAR PRIX DE L’ARC DE TRIOMPHE (Group 1)

No9 LOOK DE VEGA
Trainer: Carlos and Yan Lerner – Jockey: Ronan Thomas

The greatest race in the world might not this year throw up a superstar, but with contenders from five countries it has maintained its customary global appeal. The betting was given a shake up when French Derby winner LOOK DE VEGA was beaten into third place by SOSIE in the Prix Niel here three weeks ago. The Lerners were however quick to put forward an excuse for their colt, believing him to have been undercooked and a gallop short, whilst impressing that the son of Lope De Vega has looked right back to his imperious best in subsequent work at Maisons-Laffitte. From stall 5 Sosie can prove the pick of Andre Fabre’s trio of runners, while it’s not difficult to see the supplemented BLUESTOCKING taking a place on the podium for Ralph Beckett, as her form against the top colts and fillies has been rock solid. Ryan Moore is back aboard the Epsom Derby third LOS ANGELES who was never nearer than at the finish of the Irish Champion Stakes over an inadequate mile and a quarter. As long as he has a good pace to aim at the son of Camelot can also get involved. Japanese challenger SHIN EMPEROR has knocked on the door in three of his country’s most important races, and ran the race of his life to chase home Economics in the Irish Champion. That puts him firmly in the mix. Should the Niel runner-up DELIUS triumph it would be a timely and appropriate one for Jean-Claude Rouget, who has not been in the best of health.

Prediction: 1st LOOK DE VEGA, 2nd Los Angeles, 3rd BLUESTOCKING, 4th Shin Emperor, 5th Delius
Longshot: Mqse De Sevigne

Race 7 QATAR PRIX DE LA FORET PAR EDUCATION ABOVE ALL (Group 1)

No2 KINROSS (Nap)
Trainer: Ralph Beckett – Jockey: Rossa Ryan

It’s hard to remember such a competitive renewal of the Foret and with 18 scheduled to go to post obtaining room for manoeuvre at the finish could be of maximum importance. KELINA hasn’t had much to shout about since her 2023 victory in this race in which she thwarted KINROSS, but granted the ease in which the latter took out the Park Stakes at Doncaster the seven-year-old has a very good chance of reclaiming the title he won in 2022. Not only is he back to somewhere near his best, but Rossa Ryan is now getting the best out of the Nap in the same way Frankie Dettori did before his semi-retirement to California. There are several dangers of whom TIBER FLOW is a gutsy individual, and can claim a cheque for William Haggas.
