NEWMARKET

Race 1 No6 MAJESTIC PRIDE (Nap)
Trainer: Charlie Appleby – Jockey: William Buick

This hot heat can fall to MAJESTIC PRIDE, a half-brother to the top-class Farhh who smoothly opened his account at Chelmsford back in November and who should have the measure of stablemate City Of Kings, himself a winner on his second start at Ascot. A hood worn by the selection on that occasion is now dispensed with.

Race 3 No4 UNFORGOTTEN
Trainer: John Gosden – Jockey: Frankie Dettori

UNFORGOTTEN hasn’t done much wrong since returning from an enforced absence with two successes and a narrow defeat in as many starts this year. The grey frequently attracts heavy market support, and his three-quarter-of-a-length defeat by Alrehb in a Class 2 at Wolverhampton last time strongly suggests he’s going to progress into Listed or Group company before long. He’s up against some in-form foes and especially BUCEPHALUS, who after storming home at Doncaster is one to have a saver on.

Race 5 No5 PALAMON
Trainer: Richard Hannon – Jockey: Ryan Moore

Moore has to be looked upon with a degree of seriousness when he teams up with his original employers the Hannons, and his mount PALAMON is the go-to horse in this maiden. The colt chased home Bold Act on debut on the July course, and although disappointing on his only other outing at Newbury has done well through the winter, and should give a good account.

Race 7 No3 AL BAREZ
Trainer: Tom Clover – Jockey: Jack Mitchell

AL BAREZ is an unexposed winner of three of his four races who returns to the fray on the back of a breathing operation. He’s another that is regularly supported, as was the case for his latest triumph at Doncaster exactly a year ago. He can demonstrate by making this a fourth win on the spin that he is far from being a forgotten horse.

LINGFIELD PARK

Race 5 No2 CITY CYCLONE
Trainer: Daniel Kubler – Jockey: Richard Kingscote

CITY CYCLONE raised his game on a final of three outings last year to finish second to Dionysian at Kempton. That switch to the all-weather appeared to benefit the Cityscape gelding, whose trainer has made a bright start to the campaign.

Race 7 No2 CRESCENT LAKE (Nap)
Trainer: Gary Moore – Jockey: Tom Queally

CRESCENT LAKE absolutely hacked up at Chelmsford as part of a flurry of April winners for his trainer. The gelding is making rapid progress from race to race, and should follow up from his revised mark.

SOUTHWELL

Race 3 No2 MILITARY TYCOON
Trainer: Hugo Palmer – Jockey: Ben Curtis

MILITARY TYCOON has earned on both starts, and while mindful that his performance here will gain him a handicap mark, he’s shown enough to suggest he can open his account at the main expense of Indiana Be.

Race 6 No5 EASTER ICON (Nap)
Trainer: Jack Channon – Jockey: George Bass

EASTER ICON made a good fist of trying to make every yard over this course and distance last month. The chestnut only succumbed to odds-on Kiss My Face in the final furlong, and that winner has subsequently boosted the form. The Nap is in very good order, and can go one better under a good apprentice that knows him.

Race 7 No7 BLACKJACK
Trainer: Alan Brown – Jockey: Charlie Bennett

BLACKJACK has posted both his 2023 victories at this course and should welcome a return to his happy hunting ground after narrowly failing in better company at Chelmsford. A repeat of that effort should be enough to see him bounce back as he returns to a Class 5.
