Race 5

THE DRAMATIST put five lengths between himself and the opposition when winning his penultimate outing over 1300m and then finished second next time out when stepping up to a mile, just a head behind the winner, but he came three wide into the home straight that day and raced green during the whole race. He will have to negotiate draw thirteen, but nevertheless, he is taken to be the best bet on the day’s card.

SIMPKIN followed up his penultimate run victory over six furlongs with a second place finish next time out over the same sprint trip, just a head back from the winner. He came the widest of them all into the home stretch that day, but stayed on well over the closing stages. He has an even wider draw seventeen, but he should be doing his best work late.

MOORABINDA MICK on the other hand has a handy gate three and showed solid improvement to win his maiden race last time out over 1300m by 1.8L, despite coming four wide into the home straight. He takes on stronger here, but he may well be up to the task at hand.

Race 6

AUNTIE MONNIE won her penultimate start over six furlongs and then finished second next time out over the same distance, two lengths adrift of the victor. She is a speedy sort who tried to go from jump to wire that day and was only collared late, but the form of that race has stood up well with two runners out of that contest subsequently winning. She faces a wideish draw nine, but she should use her early gate speed to move across without expending too much energy.

PREFER TO BE READY had her consistency rewarded with a 1.3L maiden race victory last time out over five furlongs, despite being slow away and coming four wide into the home straight. She was returning from a 17 week rest that day and from a kinder draw two, she should be right up there when they hit the line.

MAJESTIC WINGS also won her penultimate outing, but in her case over seven furlongs and then finished second last time out over six furlongs, a length off the winner and the form of that race has been franked. She will have to overcome a wide gate ten, but on the plus side, she will have 2kgs taken off her back thanks to her claiming apprentice to aid her cause.

Race 7

The day’s value bet, FENDER has finished closer to the winner in each of his last three runs, the latest when seventh over six furlongs, just under two and a half lengths adrift of the victor when returning from a 20 week spell, but he raced wide throughout in that race. He has cracked pole position, so that should not happen again and he could prove hard to topple in this line-up.

KINLOCH goes for his hat-trick after wins over six furlongs and the latest over seven furlongs by a head. That last victory was particularly encouraging as he hung in all the way down the home straight. He has a cozy draw four and will be having his peak run after returning from a 17 week absence.

WREN’S DAY had finished second in his two runs prior to ending up in fifth spot last time out over seven furlongs, just under three lengths behind the winner, but he had to be held up on the home turn that day. He gets a wideish gate nine, but he has finished third in a subsequent barrier trial and will be hoping to bounce back to winning ways today.

Race 8

This looks to be a tricky race to end off the day’s jackpot with plenty of runners in with a realistic chance of finding the winner’s box, so some caution is suggested.

TRUMPED UP’S last three runs have yielded a third place and two second place finishes, the latest over five furlongs, four lengths behind the winner when returning from a 24 week break, but it should be noted that he hung in all the way down the home straight that day, so should have finished closer to the winner than he officially did. He faces a wideish gate nine, but he will be hoping to give jockey Willie Pike victories in the second and closing leg of the Jackpot.

LADY RUPERT is a 3yr old filly taking on the boys, but she has only had the two runs to date, finishing third on debut over five furlongs and then showing the expected improvement to win over the same c&d at the second time of asking, notwithstanding being hampered at the start and hanging out over the closing stages. The form of that race has been franked and she is expected to show further improvement with that last run under her belt and is sure to put her pole position to good use.

TAKETHESHOT won his penultimate run over five furlongs and then finished a disappointing nineth next time out over the same trip, 11.8L adrift of the winner, but he came five wide into the home stretch and was completely unsuited by the heavy going that day, so that effort is best ignored. Although jumping from a wide gate ten, he should be included in all bets.
