Race 6

This looks to be a tricky race to open the day” Jackpot with plenty of runners in with a realistic chance of finding the winner’s box, so some caution is suggested. MAURICETTE has only had the two runs to date, finishing third on debut over six furlongs and then making the expected improvement to win next time out over the same c&d by just over two lengths. she raced just behind the leaders that day and then kicked clear of the field to win going away. She would have come on further from that experience and with the natural improvement that can be expected, she could be the one that they all have to beat. She is drawn the widest of them all in gate fifteen, but she should use her early gate speed to move across without expending too much energy.

BRIDGES TO BABYLON has finished third in her last two outings and sat up with the leaders before battling all the way down to the wire to end up just a head behind the winner last time out over seven furlongs. she gets a far kinder gate five and will have 3kgs taken off her back thanks to her claiming apprentice.

REALLY SERIOUS followed up her penultimate run victory over five furlongs with a fifth-place finish next time out when stepping up to 1100M, 3.2L back from the winner, but she came from some way back in that contest, suggesting that she should appreciate the extra ground on offer here. She is drawn one outside the latter and will get 1.5kgs removed from her allocated weight courtesy of her claiming apprentice.

Race 7

WRATHFUL finished fourth first time out over seven furlongs and then went on to win his next start over the same trip by a head, despite being hampered at the 1000M mark, coming four wide into the home straight and finally hanging in down the home stretch. With the natural improvement that can be expected and from gate seven, he is taken to be the best bet on the day’s card.

UNZAGA finished his race off well when fifth last time out over seven furlongs, three lengths behind the winner. He faces a wide draw twelve, but given his racing style, he is likely to be dropped out of it in the early stages and then start to pick off the front runners over the latter part of the race.

SUPRA MARNIUM made solid improvement to finish fourth in his latest outing over 1500M, 2.8L back from the winner, but he had to be steadied off the heels of other runners at the 600M mark and came the widest of them all into the home straight, before finally being bumped at the 300M mark, so that effort was encouraging. From his kinder draw two, he should be involved in the finish.

Race 8

The day’s value bet, TIVA BAY won his penultimate start over six furlongs and then finished second next time out over 1350M, a half-length behind the winner. He finished his race off well, just failing to chase down the winner over the closing stages. He is drawn wide in gate 10 but will be having his peak run after returning from an 18-week absence.

SAPELLO was hampered initially, but finished well to win his last outing over 1300M by just under half a length. He has pulled draw seven and will have the services of a 1.5kg claiming apprentice and could complete a quick double.

HARDY raced three wide without cover but stayed on well to end up in third spot last time out over 1300M, just under a half-length behind the winner. He also has his peak run after returning from a longer 26 week break and will have to overcome a wide draw fourteen, but on the plus side, he will have 2kgs taken off his back thanks to his claiming apprentice.

Race 9

DEMITASSE has only had the three runs to date, but he has won two of these, the latest over five furlongs by a length, when returning from a 20-week absence. He was hampered at the start, finding himself at the back of the field and had to be held up at the top of the home straight, only seeing daylight at the 200M mark, be once through the gap, he finished his race off strongly. He gets a useful draw three and retains the services of ex-SA jockey Donovan Dillion, so he will get all the necessary assistance from the saddle and he could give trainer Paul Messara the winner of the first and last legs of the Jackpot.

MYSTERY LAD missed out on his hat-trick when finishing fifth last time out over five furlongs, two lengths off the winner, but he jumped awkwardly, raced three wide without cover and then came four wide into the home stretch, so under the circumstances, that effort was pleasing. He gets draw eight and will have 3kgs taken off his back courtesy of his claiming apprentice.

PROVERBIAL is a 5yr old mare taking on the boys, but she has finished closer to the winner in each of her last three runs, the latest when fourth over six furlongs, one and a half lengths adrift of the victor. She overraced in the early and middle stages that day, but if settling better here and from draw five, she should be involved in the finish.
