Race 4

ZOLLANY’S GAZE has finished closer to the winner in each of his last three starts, the latest when fourth over a mile, just over a length and a half behind the winner and if he has continued down the same path of improvement, he should be right up there when they hit the line. He ran on well from some way back that day and the form of that race has stood up well with two runners out of that contest subsequently winning. From gate five, he is taken to be the value bet on the day’s card.

ROCKBARTON ROMAN has cracked pole position and showed solid improvement to win his last start over 1500M by just over a half-length. He finished best from some way off the pace in that contest for a well-timed victory and could well be good enough to chalk up a quick double.

SHOW ME YOUR LOVE is a 4yr old filly taking on the boys, but she had to be held up approaching the home turn and then eased at the 100M mark when finishing fifth last time out over 1500M, so can be viewed as an unlucky loser. She was returning from a 17-week rest that day and jumping from draw seven, she should not be lightly dismissed.

Race 5

LEGGY POINT is a 3yr old filly taking on males. Still, she has only had the three runs to date, winning over 1100M on debut, then finishing fourth in her latest start over the same sprint distance, just over five lengths back from the winner, when returning from a 21-week break. Still, she did jump awkwardly that day, raced three wide without cover, before hanging out approaching the home turn, so she had her excuses. She jumps from a handy draw four and will get a set of blinkers fitted for the first time. She should be a big runner here if these have the desired effect.

BURLING is a 2yr old gelding bumping older horses, but he won first time out over five furlongs by a half-length, this after being slow away and finding himself towards the back of the field, before delivering a powerful finish over the closing stages. He would have learnt from that experience and with the natural improvement that can be expected, he should be considered a big runner here, notwithstanding facing a wide gate fifteen.

EVER BELLA is a 4yr old filly who tried to go from jump to wire when ending up in third place last time out over 1250M, just a neck off the winner. She has a kinder draw six and will get 2kgs taken off her back thanks to her claiming apprentice.

Race 6

RURA PENTHE’S last three runs have yielded two seconds and the latest a fourth-place finish over seven furlongs, 0.8L behind the winner, but he had to be held up straightening, before making good late progress over the latter stages and the form of that race has been franked. The gelding jumps from gate seven and looks to be the one to side with here.

INNERVOICE is a 5yr old mare taking on boys, but she had finished second in her three runs prior to ending up in fourth spot last time out over six furlongs, just under four lengths adrift of the victor. She hung in down the home straight in that event and from her useful draw two, she should turn in another honest performance today.

TAKETHESHOT followed up his penultimate run victory over six furlongs with a disappointing fifteenth place finish next time out over the same sprint trip, 7.7L lengths back from the winner, but that was at a stronger center and he did not get the clearest of passages in the home straight that day, so that effort is best ignored. The gelding is drawn one outside the latter and should be included in all bets.

Race 7

The day’s best bet, WHO GOES THERE showed any amount of early speed to put 3.1L between himself and the opposition to win on debut over 900M and could be just about anything. He has pulled gate seven and whilst taking on stronger here, the manner in with he delt with the field suggests that he may well be up to the task at hand to give trainer Mark Mason (race four) and jockey Gavin Buckley (race 7) each a double in the day’s Jackpot.

A 5yr old mare and a 3yr old filly could chase him home, with the slight preference going to THE AFFIRMATIVE, who missed out on her hat-trick after victories over 1100M and five furlongs when finishing fourth last time out over five furlongs, 2.2L behind the winner. She is also a speedy sort who should put her cosy draw three to good use.

SHAMALIE stayed on well over the latter stages when finishing sixth in her latest outing over 1100M, four and a half lengths back from the winner. She has a wideish draw eight and does return from a 23-week break, but she has had the three barrier trials to showcase her well-being.
