Race 5

CAMINO REAL was slow away and came four wide into the home straight before finishing strongly to hit the front at the 130m mark and go on to win her last start over 1100M by 2.3L. She has had two barrier trials since then, finishing second in the first and third in the latest. She is drawn the widest of them all in gate fifteen, but given her style of racing, she is likely to be dropped out of it in the early stages and should then start to pick off the front runners over the closing stages of the race.

VIVID FLASH has finished second in three of her last four outings, the latest over six furlongs, just over three lengths behind the winner. She is not drawn that much better in gate twelve, but she will be hoping to go one better today.

SHOWTIME LADY is seldom far off the action, finishing fifth last time out over 1700M, just 2.2L behind the winner. She tried to go from jump to wire that day and was only run out of it late. She returns from a 23 week break, but has had the benefit of two barrier trials, winning the latest and from her kinder gate five, she should be included in all bets.

Race 6

The day’s best bet, ATHELRIC made solid improvement to win his last start over this c&d by putting 3.2L between himself and the opposition. He raced just behind the leaders before powering away from the field as they entered the home straight and the race was over as a contest from that point. He jumps from a wideish draw nine, but he should use his early gate speed to move across without expending too much energy to give the trainer/jockey combination of James Cummings and James McDonald the first two legs of the day’s Jackpot.

SATIN RIBBONS is a 3yr old filly taking on the boys, but she followed up her penultimate run victory over five furlongs with a second place finish next time out over the same sprint trip, one length back from the winner. She comes back from 21 week rest, but has won all three of her barrier trials and from a handy draw three, she could emerge as the biggest danger to the top choice.

KING KAPA is drawn one outside the latter and had solid form before being a tad disappointing when finishing sixth last time out over 1100M, twelve and a half lengths adrift of the winner and was immediately rested for 22 weeks. It should however be noted that he overraced in the early and middle stages of that contest and hung out on both turns, resulting in him having little to offer over the latter stages. He returns here after putting in two encouraging barrier trials and should be involved in the finish.

Race 7

ASSIDUITY has only had the three runs to date, and went from gun to tape when winning his last outing over 1100M by 3.3L notwithstanding jumping awkwardly. He was returning from an 18 week break that day and even though drawn wideish in gate nine, he may be good enough to record his double here and as such, is made the value bet on the day’s card.

DEMOCRACY MANIFEST has cracked pole position and followed up his penultimate run victory over five furlongs with a second place finish next time out when stepping up to six furlongs, 1.7L off the winner, but the form of that race has stood up well with five runners out of that contest subsequently winning. The gelding has his first run since a 27 week absence, but did finish fourth in his only barrier trial to prove his fitness.

UNRELENTING tried to go from gun to tape before ending up in fifth spot last time out over seven furlongs, 5.4L behind the winner, but it should be noted that his jockey thought that there was something amiss with him and did not preserve with his ride in the home straight, so that effort should be totally ignored. He has finished second in a subsequent barrier trial and from gate five, he should not be easily overlooked.

Race 8

SHAMEONUS is looking for his hat-trick after wins over a mile and the latest over 2100m by 0.8L. He kicked clear of the rest of the field at the 200m mark that day and on that effort, the trio looks very much on the cards, despite facing a wide draw eleven.

FROM THE BUSH on the other hand has pulled pole position and jumped awkwardly and came three wide into the home stretch before staying on well to finish fourth over this c&d last time out, three lengths back from the winner and the form of that race has been franked. He will have 2kgs removed from his allocated weight courtesy of his claiming apprentice to aid his cause.

ZA CEIBAS won his last start over 1500m by three lengths when returning from an 18 week spell. He jumped awkwardly, but recovered well to race just off the pace before bursting clear at the 200M mark to win easing down in the run to the wire. He faces a wide gate eighteen, but he is a speedy sort who should be able to work his way across without using up too much energy.
