Race 5

The day’s best bet, THALASSOPHILE is a 3yr old filly taking on the boys, but she has consistent formlines to her name and followed up her penultimate run victory over six furlongs with a second place finish next time out over 1300M, just under a length behind the winner, but she jumped awkwardly and was crowded shortly after the start that day. She then did not get the clearest of passages in the home straight, so under the circumstances, she did well to get as close to the winner as she did. She is drawn wide out in gate thirteen, but with better luck in running today, she could prove difficult to topple.

PARK AVENUE is seldom far off the action and although recorded as finishing fifth last time out over 1100m, he was just over a length and a half back from the winner. He too did not get the clearest of runs in the home stretch that day and from draw eight and with ex-SA jockey Keagan Latham in the irons, he should get all the necessary assistance from the saddle and could emerge as the biggest danger to the top choice.

ARRANMORE is another 3yr old filly in the race and is the stable companion to the top pick. Her last three runs have yielded a second and two third place finishes, the latest when 3.7L off the winner over seven furlongs. She stayed on well that day and from gate five, she makes a solid back-up for the powerful Chris Waller yard.

Race 6.

Two 4yr old fillies and a 5yr old mare could fight out the finish of this race and complete the trifecta, but FOREVER YOU gets the nod for top spot. She has won three out of her last four starts, the latest over twelve furlongs by a neck and the form of that race has been franked. She battled all the way down to the wire that day and despite a wide draw ten, she looks to be the one to side with in this line-up.

FEEL THE RUSH might not have quite stayed the thirteen furlongs last time out when finishing 4.3L behind the winner, but that was in a Group 2 event and the drop in journey should be to her liking. From a kinder draw three, she should be right up there when they hit the line.

SHAMELESS MISS showed solid improvement to win her last outing over 2150M by a half length. She sat just behind the leaders in that contest and then wore them down over the closing stages. From gate six, she should be included in all bets.

Race 7.

OCEANOGRAPHY missed out on his hat-trick after two victories over a mile when finishing third last time out over the same trip, one and a half lengths off the winner. He made good late progress that day, suggesting that the extra ground on offer here will be to his liking and as such, he is taken to be the value bet on the day’s card.

HIGHBALLER is drawn one outside the top selection and had finished third, third and second before winning his latest outing over a mile by 1.2L. He kicked clear of the opposition at the entrance of the home straight that day and then held off the chasing pack in the dash down to the wire. He seems likely to turn in another honest effort today.

MAJOR ARTIE won his penultimate start over a mile and then finished fourth last time out when stepping up to to-day’s distance, four and a half lengths behind the winner, but he was reported to have been cut into, so that effort can be forgiven. The gelding has pulled draw six and will have 2kgs taken off his back thanks to his claiming apprentice to aid his cause.

Race 8.

SENSATIONALISATION is a 4yr old filly taking om males, but she showed plenty of speed to win her last start over 1350M by putting four lengths between herself and the opposition and the form of that race has been franked. From draw seven, she could give jockey Tommy Berry the winner of the last two legs of the day’s Jackpot.

MACH SCHNELL has consistent formlines to his credit, finishing fourth last time out over 1300m, two lengths adrift of the winner. He was having his first run in Australia since moving from New Zealand and did not get the clearest of passages in the home straight, only seeing daylight at the 350M pole, before finishing off his race well. He is drawn wideish in gate nine, but he should improve with that last outing under his belt.

JAILBREAK jumped awkwardly before staying on well to end up in second place last time out over 1300M, one length behind the winner. The gelding has pulled a wide draw ten, but will have 2kgs removed from his allocated weight courtesy of his claiming apprentice and should be involved in the finish.
