Race 7

This looks to be a tricky race to start off the day’s Jackpot with plenty of runners in with a realistic chance of finding the winner’s box, so some caution is suggested. POLLY GREY is a 5yr old filly taking on the boys, but she finished second last time out over this journey in a Group 3 event, just a head behind the winner. She had to be held up between the 350M and 300M marks that day, so she could be regarded as an unlucky loser. She gets gate seven and should be right up there when they hit the line.

MARRONI is drawn one inside the top choice and finished third in the same race, just over two lengths back from the winner. He tried to go from jump to wire that day and was only run out of it late. He does meet the top choice on 5.5kg better terms, which would normally be more than enough for that result to be reversed, but give how the race panned out that day, the former is preferred. The gelding will however be having his peak run since returning from an eleven week rest.

BRUTALITY has cracked pole position and jumped awkwardly before dropping back from a wide draw. He then finishing well to end up in twelfth place over the mile, 4.8L back from the winner, but that was in a Group 1 race. The gelding should enjoy the extra ground on offer here.

Race 8

Just like the previous race, this looks to be another tricky affair. MO’UNGA finished second last time out in a Group 1 event over seven furlongs, 1.2L behind the winner when returning from a 16 week rest and the form of that race has been franked. He gets a wide gate nine, but has had a barrier trial since that last outing to sharpen him up.

IN THE CONGO is drawn one outside the top pick and has posted two solid runs since returning from a 20 week break, the latest when second in a Group 2 race over six furlongs, 1.3L back from the victor. He jumped awkwardly that day, but recovered quickly to get to the head of affairs, only to be run out of it over the closing stages.

FORBIDDEN LOVE is a 4yr old filly taking on males, but she completed her hat-trick over a variety of different distance in two Group 1 and one Group 2 events, before only just missed out on her quartet of victories last time out when finishing fourth over a mile, just over one and a half lengths adrift of the winner. She will have to overcome a wide draw sixteen, but she should use her early gate speed to move across without expending too much energy.

Race 9

OUR PLAYBOY has consistent formlines to his name having finished second in his last outing over 1500M in a Group 3 event, just under a length off the winner. He finished his race off well despite his jockey dropping his crop at the 50M mark. The gelding faces a wide draw twelve, but will be having his peak run since returning from a 15 week absence and is taken to be the value bet on the day’s card.

MALI STON is a five-time winner from just the eight starts to date, so clearly has some ability. He rattled off four wins on the bounce before finishing third in his latest outing in a Group 1 race over a mile, 2.8L back from the winner. He was held up entering the home straight that day so had his excuses and from a handy gate four, he should keep the top pick honest.

TAKSU followed up his penultimate run victory over 1350M with a second place finish next time out over seven furlongs, 0.7L behind the winner, but he jumped awkwardly before shooting to the lead that day, only to be run out of it very late. It should however be noted that he hung out throughout that race. From a wideish draw eight and with him having 2kgs taken off his back thanks to his claiming apprentice, he could prove hard to peg back over the latter stages.

Race 10

The day’s best bet, MAOTAI won his penultimate start over six furlongs and then went on to finish eighth over the same trip next time out, two and a half lengths back from the winner in a Group 3 event. He showed plenty of speed that day and from gate three, he could prove hard to topple.

Two 5yr old mare could chase him home with the slight preference going to APRIL RAIN had to check at the 50M mark and became unbalanced before ending up in fourth spot last time out over seven furlongs, 2.3L behind the winner, so that effort was pleasing. She gets gate five and returns from a 22 week spell, but has put in encouraging barrier trials to prove her fitness.

KATALIN jumped awkwardly and was crowded at the 400M pole before finishing third in her latest outing over six furlongs, just over one length behind the winner. She was returning from a 10 week rest that day and from gate eight, she should be involved in the finish.
