Race 7

RUSTIC STEEL finished strongly from some way back when ending up in fifth place last time out over 1300M, just under four and a half lengths behind the winner and on that effort, he should enjoy the extra ground on offer today. From gate six, he could be the one that they all have to best.

FELIX MAJESTIC has won two of his last three starts, the latest over seven furlongs, albeit by just a short-head and the form of that race has been franked. The gelding went from jump to wire that day and from his handy draw two, he is likely to attempt similar tactics today.

GREBENI jumped awkwardly losing two lengths, but still managed to strike the front at the top of the home straight to win his latest outing over seven furlongs by just under a half-length. He will have to negotiate a wide draw eleven, but he will be having his peak run after returning from a 15-week break and should be included in all bets.

Race 8

MALKOVICH raced up with the pace when finishing sixth last time out over 1100M, 3.8L behind the winner, but that was in a Group 3 event. He does return from a 21-week break, but has had two barrier trials, finishing second in the first and winning the latest. The gelding jumps from draw seven and should use his early gate speed to move across without expending too much energy and is taken to be the best bet on the day’s card.

QUICK TEMPO has consistent formlines to his name and followed up his penultimate run victory over five furlongs with a second-place finish next time out over the same sprint trip, two lengths back from the winner. He battled all the way down to the wire in that event and from one gate outside the top choice, he could be the biggest threat to the former.

DRAGONSTONE was slow away and did not get the clearest of passages in the home straight that day, only seeing daylight at the 350M mark before finishing well, ending up in fourth spot last time out over five furlongs, 2.7L behind the winner. The gelding is drawn the widest of them all in gate ten, but he should be doing his best work late to be involved in the finish.

Race 9

The day’s value bet, LITTLE MIX is a 5-year-old mare taking on the boys, but she goes for her hat-trick after victories over eleven furlongs and the latest over ten furlongs by a head. She kicked clear of the field at the 100M mark that day and then held off the late challengers in the dash down to the wire, The form of that race has stood up well with three runners out of that contest subsequently winning and notwithstanding a wide draw ten, she should have no issue with the extra ground of this event.

SKY LAB is seldom far off the action and stayed on well when finishing third last time out over 2300M, 1.3L back from the winner. He has a kinder draw six and should turn in another honest performance today.

SERPENTINE had solid form, prior to finishing nineteenth in his latest outing over sixteen furlongs, 32.4L adrift of the victor, but that was in the Melbourne Cup and he tried to go from gun to tape that day. The gelding is trained by the legendary Gai Waterhouse, who would not have run him in that race if she thought that he never had any sort of a chance, so perhaps the gelding deserves another chance here, jumping from gate seven.

Race 10

SMASHING EAGLE has finished second in three of his last four starts, and put his disappointing penultimate start over 1100M behind him when finishing in one of those second spots next time out over the same 1100M, two lengths back from the winner, but he was hampered at the start, before making good late progress over the latter stages. The gelding gets gate seven and will be hoping to go one better here.
A 5yr old mare and a 4yr old filly could chase him home, with the slight preference going to

DOLLAR MAGIC who has in turn, finished second in her last three runs, the latest over 1100M, one and a half lengths back from the winner, but she did hang in from the 300M pole on that occasion, so she had an excuse. She has a useful draw three and will hope to go one better today.

SALISANO is a five-time winner from just six starts and completed her hat-trick when winning her last start over six furlongs by a half-length, notwithstanding being bumped shortly after the start. She, on the other hand, will have to deal with a wide gate sixteen, but she is a speedy sort who should be able to work her way across without using up too much gas.
