Race 7

CHORLTON LANE has only had the three runs to date, but has won two of them and finished second in the other, so he clearly has some ability. The latest victory by a neck came over 1300M when having his first run in Australia, since arriving from the UK. The gelding was also returning from a 25 week break and was slow away, before finishing off his race well. It should also be noted that he was reported to be coughing post-race. He has a wideish draw eight, but given the manner in which he won last time out, he is made the best bet on the day’s card.

TOKEN CAPITALIST put his disappointing penultimate run behind him when going from jump to wire to win his last start over seven furlongs by just under a half length. He will have to negotiate a wider gate ten, but on the plus side, he will get 1.5kgs taken off his back thanks to her claiming apprentice, Zac Lloyd, son of ex-SA champion jockey, Jeff Lloyd.

KANGAROO COURT followed up his penultimate run victory over six furlongs with a second place finish next time out over 1300M, just a short-head behind the winner. The gelding sat up in second place before striking the front at the 200M mark, only to be snared in the shadow of the post. From his kinder draw three, he should be involved in the finish.

Race 8

A three year old filly and a six year old mare could fight out the finish to this race and complete the exacta, but SEMANA is taken to lead the field home. She has won two of her last three outings and finished second in the other, the latest victory coming over seven furlongs by 2.8L. She went from gun to tape that day and the form of that race has been franked. She has pulled gate seven and could prove hard to reel in to give the training combination of Ciaron Maher and David Eustace the first two legs of the day’s Jackpot.

BARBIE’S FOX has consistent formlines to her name, but had nothing go her way when finishing fourth last time out over seven furlongs, 1.8L back from the victor. She was bumped at the start, had to be steadied shortly thereafter, held up between the 400M and 100M mark and finally, she was struck on the head by the crop of another jockey. She jumps from draw five and will have a non-claiming Zac Lloyd in the irons. With better luck today, she should be right up there when they hit the line.

RESONATOR missed out on his hat-trick after victories over seven furlongs and 1500M when finishing second last time out over seven furlongs, just a short-head off the winner. He did jump awkwardly that day, making contact with another runner, but recovered quickly to pick up the lead, only to be nabbed in the last jump. He is drawn one inside the latter and should be included in all bets. There is an unraced runner in the field, so keep an eye on the betting markets to get some indication as to whether his connections believe that they can win first time out. Any betting support for him should be respected.

Race 9

OMNI MAN goes for his hat-trick after two wins over five furlongs, the latest by two and a half lengths, notwithstanding being bumped at the start. He still managed to race up in second spot, before kicking clear of the opposition at the 250M pole and then holding off all the late challengers in the dash down to the wire. He faces a wide draw eleven, but he should use his early gate speed to move across without expending too much energy.

ZETHUS raced just behind the pace and then battled all the way down to the wire when ending up in third spot last time out over six furlongs, 2.3L off the winner. The gelding jumps from draw six and will have the services of 1.5kg claiming Zac Lloyd to aid his cause.

SWEET RIDE had finished second twice prior to ending up in fourth place last time out over 1100M, just over a length and a half behind the winner, when returning from a 23 week spell. The colt is drawn one outside the latter and should not be easily overlooked.

Race 10

The day’s value bet, MUCH MUCH BETTER has consistent formlines to his name and followed up his penultimate run victory over six furlongs with a second place finish next time out over the same sprint trip, just a half length back from the winner, when returning from a 19 week rest. He showed plenty of toe that day and was only nailed late. From his draw five, he could complete a red-letter day for 1.5kg claimer Zac Lloyd.

SEMANA is a three year old filly taking on the boys, but she has won two of her last three outings, the latest over seven furlongs by 2.8L and the form of that race has been franked. She jumps from one gate outside the top pick and should give the males a good run for their money.

HE’S OUR BONNEVAL made good late progress when finishing fourth last time out over six furlongs, just under a length behind the winner. He attracted plenty of betting support that day and from a useful draw two, he will be hoping to make amends today.
