Race 7

CABALLUS has consistent formlines to his name and followed up his penultimate run victory over 1100M with a third place finish next time out over 1300M, just a half length back from the winner, but it should be noted that he was crowded and had to be steadied shortly after the start, before having to be held up until the 200M mark in the home straight, so can be considered an unlucky loser. From his handy draw four, he is taken to be the best bet on the day’s card.

LES VAMPIRES has only had the two runs to date, finishing third on debut over six furlongs and then showing the expected improvement to win next time out over the same sprint trip by 1.3L. He showed plenty of toe that day and would have come on further with that run under his belt. He jumps from gate six and could prove hard to peg back over the closing stages.

ENCAP has finished second in his last two outings, the latest over six furlongs by 1.3L. He was however bumped shortly after the start in that event and became unbalanced at the 600M mark, so that effort was encouraging. The gelding will have to negotiate draw nine, but should still be involved in the finish.

Race 8

The day’s value bet, THE INSTRUCTOR won over five furlongs three runs back, finished eighth in his penultimate start over six furlongs and then third in his latest outing over 1100M, just under a half length behind the winner, when returning from a 24 week break. He tried to go from jump to wire that day and was only run out of it late. From his wideish draw eight, he is likely to attempt similar tactics today.

CORNICHE had his consistency rewarded with his maiden victory last time out over six furlongs, by one and a half lengths. He struck the front at the 200M mark and then held off the chasing pack in the dash down to the wire. He returns from a 26 week break, but has had the two barrier trials, winning the first and finishing second in the latest. The gelding takes on stronger here, but from draw six, he may well be up to the task at hand.

KANDINSKY ABSTRACT won by 1.3l when making his debut over six furlongs, despite taking a bump at the 300M pole. He would have learnt from that experience and with the natural improvement that can be expected, he should be right up there when they hit the line. He does have his first run after a shorter 16 week rest, but has also had the two barrier trials, winning the latest. The colt faces a wide draw eleven, but he should use his early gate speed to move across without expending too much energy.

Race 9

KALINO won his penultimate start over 1300M and then was bumped shortly after the start when ending up in fifth place last time out over six furlongs, just under three lengths back from the winner. He has his peak run after returning from a 17 week rest and has pulled gate seven and could provide the powerful Chris Waller stable with there second winner in the day’s Jackpot, should the top pick win the opening leg.

GLINT OF SILVER has shown solid improvement in his last two outings, finishing third in the latest over seven furlongs, just over a length and a half back from the winner. He tried to go from gun to tape that day and whilst drawn wide in gate eleven, he could prove hard to reel in over the latter stages. He will also be having his peak run after returning from a 16 week absence.

MISSION PHOENIX was returning from a 24 week spell and a change of trainers when finishing fourth in his latest start over seven furlongs, just under two and a half lengths behind the victor, but he did not get the clearest of passages in the home straight that day. From his kinder draw five, he should be included in all bets.

Race 10

PIONEER RIVER battled all the way down to the wire when finishing third last time out over 1100M, just a half length off the winner. He gets a handy draw four and the service of champion jockey James McDonald, who is aboard the top choice in the opening leg of the day’s Jackpot. The gelding will also have the blinkers back on for this outing and if this move has the desired effect, he could prove hard to topple.

DALAALAAT goes for his hat-trick after victories over six furlongs and the latest over 1100M, albeit by just a short-head. He hit the front at the 130M pole and then held on courageously. The gelding has a wideish draw eight and will have his first run after returning from a 26 week break, but has had the benefit of two barrier trials, winning them both to showcase his well-being.

DIAMOND DEALER is a 5yr old mare taking on the boys, and was slow away and hampered at the 1000M mark when finishing third last time out over six furlongs, just over three and a half lengths behind the winner. She has pulled a useful gate two and should give the males a good run for their money.
