Race 7

KING FRANKEL raced three wide without cover and struck the front at the 250M mark before being run out of it very late to finish third last time out in a Group 1 event over twelve furlongs, just a length behind the winner. He will have to negotiate draw eleven, but he looks to be the one to side with here and is made the value bet on the day’s card.

CLEVELAND was having his first run in Australia after relocating from the UK when finishing fifth in the race mentioned above, just over two lengths behind the winner. He raced toward the back of the field that day and had to be checked at the 500M pole, so he had his excuses, but as he faces the former on 1kg worse terms at today’s weights and is drawn wider in gate seventeen, he may battle to overturn that result.

GOLD TRIP is last year’s Melbourne Cup winner who raced towards the rear of the field, but then finished off his race well when ending up in seventh place in the same race as the top two selections, 3.3L back from the victor. He is drawn not much better than the latter in gate sixteen and meets the top pick on 8.5kgs worse term here, so he may well have to settle for the same result.

Race 8

ANAMOE’S Group 1 record speaks for itself, boasting sixteen runs for nine wins, four seconds and a third-place finish. He completed his hat-trick when winning a Group 1 race over 1500M by just under a half-length last time out, this despite racing wide throughout and coming five wide into the home straight. He always seems to do just enough in his victories, seldom winning by wide margins and whilst drawn wideish in gate eight, he could chalk up the quartet today.

His main rival could be the impressive last race winner, DUBAI HONOUR who raced just behind the leaders after being slow away, but then accelerated smartly to win his first race in Australia since moving from the UK, a Group 1 race over ten furlongs by 4.4L. The gelding is drawn one outside the former and he should be right up there when they hit the line.

CASCADIAN is the stable companion to the top choice and had to be held up from the 500M to the 300M mark before finishing powerfully to win his last start in a Group 1 race over ten furlongs, by 0.8L going away from the opposition. The gelding gets draw five and makes a solid backup for the formidable James Cummings yard.

Race 9

ALCOHOL FREE is a four-time Group 1 winner in the UK who has joined a top Australian yard and has her first outing in the country. She returns from a 39-week spell, but she did win her only barrier trial to showcase her well-being and the engagement of champion jockey James McDonald would seem to suggest that the stable is confident of a big run from the filly, to give him a quick double in the day’s Jackpot.

HOPE IN YOUR HEART jumped awkwardly and was forced to come the widest of them all into the home straight to finish fourth in her latest outing, a Group 1 contest over a mile, just under one and a half lengths adrift of the victor. She has pulled a handy draw four and could emerge as the biggest threat to the top pick.

ATISHU has cracked pole position and jumped awkwardly and was bumped shortly after the start, but still managed to finish well from some way back to end up in second spot last time out in a Group 2 event over 1500M, 1.2L behind the winner. On that effort, the extra ground on offer here should be to her liking.

Race 10

The day’s best bet, ZAPATEO jumped awkwardly, but managed to sit fourth, before coming three wide into the home stretch, but struck the front at the 150M mark and then held off all the late challengers in the dash down to the wire to win her last start, a Group 3 race over six furlongs by 1.2L. She has her peak run after returning from a 17-week break and whilst drawn wide in gate fifteen out of sixteen, she gets the services of James McDonald who will be looking for his third winner in the day’s Jackpot and give trainer James Cunningham his second winner.

PRINCESS GRACE has solid USA form and has joined the powerful stable of Chris Waller. He has given her two barrier trials, finishing fourth in the first and second in the latest. She has won two Group 1 races and three Group 3 events in the US, so she clearly has some ability. From her kinder draw three, she should be a big threat to the top pick.

JAL LEI followed up her penultimate run victory in a Group 3 contest over six furlongs with a second-place finish next time out over the same sprint trip, 1.3L back from the winner, but she only saw daylight at the 150M mark before finishing off her race strongly. She is drawn wide in gate ten, but she has her peak run after returning from an 18-week break and should be involved in the finish.
