Race 4

HURN COURT has cracked pole position and was making good late progress when finishing fourth last time out over five furlongs, two lengths behind the winner, suggesting that the extra ground on offer here will be to his liking.

LINDEN TREE is seldom far off the action, and although recorded as finishing seventh last time out over seven furlongs, he was just 4.3L back from the winner. He was staying on well that day, and from his handy draw three and with 1.5kgs taken off his back thanks to his claiming apprentice, he should be right up there when they hit the line.

CHEPTEGEI followed up his penultimate run victory over a mile with a sixth place finish next time out over five furlongs, 4.3L off the winner, when returning from a 25-week break, but he raced wide throughout that day and hung in down the home straight. He will have to negotiate gate nine, but he should not be lightly dismissed.

Race 5

DEMITASSE has only had the three runs to date, but he has won two of them, the latest over five furlongs by one length, this despite being hampered at the start and having to weave his way through traffic in the home straight to win going away. He was returning from a 20-week rest that day and whilst drawn the widest of them all in gate eleven, he should be doing his best work late.

A 4yr old filly and a 5yr old mare could chase him home with the slight preference going to HAMMOON STAR, who has consistent formlines to her name, finishing second last time out over five furlongs, five lengths off the winner, but she raced three wide without cover in that contest, but still battled all the way down to the line. She jumps from gate five and will likely turn in another honest performance today.

THE NEON KNIGHT has finished closer to the winner in each of her last three runs, the latest when third over five furlongs, just 0.7L behind the victor, but she also raced three wide without cover that day but stayed on well over the latter stages and the form of that race has been franked. She is sure to put her pole position to good use and should be included in all bets.

Race 6

The day’s value bet, SCARLEO has won two of his last three starts, the latest over a mile when putting four and a half lengths between himself and the balance of the field. The gelding is drawn in gate six and will be hoping to chalk up his sixth career victory here.

TOULON FACTOR’S last four runs have yielded two wins, one unplaced and a second-place finish last time out over 1300M, just a head back from the victor, but he jumped awkwardly that day and was crowded at the 1000M mark, before coming three wide approaching the home turn, so could be considered an unlucky loser. He is drawn one inside the top choice and will have 2kgs removed from his allocated weight courtesy of his claiming apprentice.

HEMSTED completed his hat-trick over seven furlongs, the latest by a head. He raced just behind the leader that day and then ran them down in the shadow of the post. The gelding is drawn wide in gate thirteen, but on the plus side, he will have 1.5kgs taken off his back for the services of his claiming apprentice.

Race 7

KORA MAGIC is a 4yr old filly taking on the boys and has finished an incredible five seconds in a row, the latest over six furlongs, two lengths behind the winner. She showed plenty of toe that day and the form of that race has been franked. From her useful draw two, she seems overdue a win and is taken to be the best bet on the day’s card.

SIZZLE MINIZZLE has only had the three runs to date, winning the latest over 1300M by three and a half lengths, notwithstanding racing three wide without cover. He struck the front at the 350M pole to win going away and whilst facing a wide gate thirteen, he will get 2kgs taken off his back for his claiming apprentice to aid his cause. The gelding does need to deal with a wide gate thirteen, but he should use his early gate speed to move across without expending too much energy. He will also be returning from a 25-week break without having had the benefit of a barrier trial, so his fitness will have to be taken on trust, but he could still emerge as the biggest threat to the top pick.

TIMMY won his maiden race in his penultimate outing over five furlongs and then finished second next time out when stepping up to six furlongs, 1.2L behind the winner. He gets a kinder gate eight and will also have the services of a 2kg claiming apprentice, so is likely to be involved in the finish.
