Race 4.

Although DENI GAL is recorded as finishing fifth in her last start over six furlongs, she was only 1.3L behind the winner and had to be eased at the 50M mark, so can be considered an unlucky loser. That was at a stronger center and whilst she is a 5yr mare taking on the boys, she gets gate five and is taken to be the best bet on the day’s card.

CARTOGRAPHY ran on powerfully, but from too far back to finish fourth last time out over 1300M, just over three lengths behind the winner and the form of that race has stood up well with two runners out of that contest subsequently winning. The gelding has his first run for his new trainer and if fully settled into his new surroundings, he should give a good account of himself here. He does face a wideish draw eight, but he should be doing his best work late.

SHADDY has finished closer to the winner in each of his last three runs, the latest when second over 1300M, just under three and a half lengths adrift of the victor. He raced three wide throughout that day, but still managed to finish his race off well. From his kinder gate four, he should be involved in the finish.

Race 5.

DREAM GAME goes for his hat-trick after victories over six furlongs and the latest over 1300M by just under a length and a half. He finished off his race well in that contest, suggesting that the extra ground on offer here will be to his liking. He gets gate seven and will have his peak run after returning from a 30 week break.

RUBICK ISLAND is a 5yr old mare taking on males, but she has consistent formlines to her name, having finished fourth last time out over 1500M, just over one and a half lengths back from the victor. She raced up with the leaders that day and was only run out of it late, so the drop in trip will suit her well. She has pulled a handy draw three and should give the boys a good run for their money.

TICK TOCK BOOM is seldom far off the action and tried to go from jump to wire when ending up in fourth place in his latest outing over seven furlongs, 2.8L back from the winner. The gelding was bumped at the 200M mark in that contest and his jockey dropped his crop at the 100M pole, so he should have finished closer to the winner than he officially did. He gets gate eight and a set of blinkers re-fitted for the day’s run. If this move has the desired effect, he should be a big runner here.

Race 6.

THE PRES made good late progress when finishing fourth over a mile last time out, just over a length and a half behind the winner. His four runs prior to that outing had yielded two seconds and two third place finishes, so from his useful draw two, he will be hoping to bounce back to that sort of form today. He gets 3kgs taken off his back thanks to his claiming apprentice and is made the value bet on the day’s card.

ROMAN CANDLE showed marked improvement when second in his latest outing over seven furlongs, just under a length and a half behind the winner. He raced three wide without cover that day and kicked clear of the field on entering the home straight, before being run out of it late. From gate five, he should be right up there when they hit the line.

MR CANTANKEROUS has produced three solid last runs, winning over a mile three runs back, then finishing third last time out over the same mile journey, 1.8L off the winner. He tried to go from gun to tape that day and from gate six, he is likely to adopt similar tactics today.

Race 7.

There are five unraced runners in the field, so as is always the case in these types of races, a keen eye should be kept on the betting markets to get some indication as to whether any of the connection believe that they can win first time out. Any betting support for a runner or runners should be respected.

Of the raced runners SKY ACE may prove to be the best. He has consistent formlines to his credit and overraced in the early and middle stages before ending up in second spot last time out over eleven furlongs, just a half length behind the winner and the form of that race has been franked. He returns from a 16 week break, but did finish third in his only barrier trail and gets a cozy draw three. He looks to be the one to side with here.

MAKANUI was bumped at the start but recovered well to take the lead before being run out of it late to finish fourth in his latest outing over a mile, just over three lengths back from the victor. He has pulled gate five and the drop in trip should be in his favor.

EDGEWISE is a 4yr old filly taking on boys, but she showed encouraging form in her two runs prior to being somewhat disappoint when finishing nineth last time out over seven furlongs, 9.8L behind the winner, but she had to be held up at the 300M pole that day, so had her excuses. She will have to deal with a wideish draw eight, but nevertheless she should not be easily overlooked in this line-up.
