Race 5

This looks to be a tricky race to start off the day’s jackpot with plenty of runners in with a realistic chance of finding the winner’s box, so some caution is suggested.

The tentative top choice goes to BUCKIN’ BEAUTY who is a 6yr old mare taking on the boys, but followed up her penultimate run victory over 1100M with a fourth place finish next time out over the same c&d, one and a half lengths behind the winner, this despite her jockey dropping his crop at the 200M mark and shifting out over the closing stages. She will have to overcome a wide draw ten, but on the plus side, she will get 4kgs taken off her back thanks to her claiming apprentice and will be having her peak outing after returning from a 25 week break.

CRACKING MO goes for his hat-trick after two victories over six furlongs, the latest by just over a length. He went from jump to wire that day and the form of that race has stood up well with three runners out of that contest subsequently winning. He has also finished second in a subsequent barrier trial and has his peak run after returning from a longer 29 week absence. From gate seven, he should be right up there when they hit the line.

MAJORITY is a 4yr old filly who missed out on her hat-trick when finishing fourth in her latest start over seven furlongs, just over one and a half lengths adrift of the victor and the form of that race has been franked. She faces a wideish draw nine, but nevertheless should be involved in the finish.

Race 6

ITA is a 4yr old filly taking on males, but her last three runs have yielded two seconds and a third place finish, the latest that third spot finish over a mile, 2.7L behind the winner. She raced just behind the leaders that day and then battled all the way down to the line. She gets gate eight and should use that early gate speed to move across without expending too much energy.

SHAMEONUS is the stable companion to the top choice and had his consistency rewarded with a just under two and a half length win last time out over a mile. He was trapped wide early, but struck the front as the fielded turned for home and then held off all the chasing pack in the dash down to the wire. From a kinder draw three, he makes a solid back-up for the yard.

EASY CAMPESE had consistent form over shorter trips before disappointing when stepping up to ten furlongs in his penultimate start, but put that behind him when reverting to 1550M, finishing second over 1550M, just under a half length back from the winner. The gelding tried to go from gun to tape that day and from draw seven, he could prove difficult to reel in over the latter stages and should be included in all bets.

Race 7

Two 2yr old fillies could fight out the finish to this race and complete the exacta, but the day best bet, DEEP EXPECTATION is taken to lead the field home. She has only had the four runs to date, posting two second place finishes, the latest being one of those second over 1100M, 2.3L behind the winner. She looked a possible winner entering the home straight that day, but hung out over the closing stages, costing her valuable ground. She gets a tidy draw two and will be looking to go one better today.

SWEET BABY BOOM showed plenty of speed before ending up in third spot when making her debut over 1100M, just under two and a half lengths adrift of the victor. She would have learnt from that experience and with the natural improvement that can be expected and from gate five, she could be the biggest danger to the top pick.

LAST BID LIAM’S last five outings have yielded two wins and one third place finish, and goes for his hat-trick after victories over five furlongs and the latest over 1100M by just under half a length, notwithstanding coming three wide into the home straight. He faces a wide draw fifteen, but is likely to be dropped out of it in the early stages and then start to run down the frontrunners over the latter stages.

Race 8

BEAUCHAMP has won two of his last four starts and showed plenty of early speed before holding off all the late challengers in the dash down to the wire to win his latest outing over 1100M by 1.4L. He has pulled gate six and is taken to be the value bet on the day’s program.

BOOM BOOM BASIL won his last start over six furlongs by 0.7L and was immediately moved to a new stable and rested for 25 weeks. He returns here after winning his only barrier trial to prove his fitness. The gelding has a cozy draw three and will get 1.5kgs removed from his allocated weight courtesy of his claiming apprentice. If fully settled into his new surroundings, he should give a good account of himself here.

I AM CAPITAIN won his penultimate run over 1100M and then disappointed next time out, ending up in thirteenth spot over 1300M, 20.2L adrift of the victor. He was put away for 26 week and returns here having finished second in his only barrier trial. The gelding has pulled a wideish gate eight, but should make his presence felt here.
