Race 5

An 8-year-old mare and a 4-year-old filly could fight out the finish to this race and complete the exacta, but the day’s value bet, SUCROSE is taken to lead the field home. She has posted two solid last runs and tried to go from jump to wire when finishing third last time out over seven furlongs, 1.3L behind the winner and the form of that race has been franked. She jumps from gate five and is likely to attempt similar tactics today.

JEWEL APPROACH won her maiden race last time out over 1500M by one and a half lengths, at the sixth time of asking and the form of that race has stood up well with two runners out of that contest subsequently winning. She sat just behind the leaders that day and then finished best to win going away. The filly will have to negotiate a wide-drawn nine, but she should use her early gate speed to move across without expending too much energy.

SINGLE CROWN showed marked improvement on his penultimate start over eleven furlongs in heavy going to finish fifth in his latest outing when dropping down to six furlongs, 3.3L back from the winner. He was slow away in that contest and had to be held up at the 200M pole, so he had his excuses and with better luck in running today, he should not be lightly overlooked.

Race 6

MONTEBELLO’S CHARM finished seventh last time out over seven furlongs in heavy going, 6.7L behind the winner, but that was also at a stronger centre and the form of that race has been boosted by three winner out of that race subsequently winning. The gelding has pulled draw seven and looks to be the one to side with here.

CONSTANTINOU is a 6-year-old mare taking on the boys, but she is seldom far off the action and made good late progress when finishing fourth last time out over six furlongs, two and a half lengths back from the winner. From her useful draw three, she should be right up there when they hit the line.

JALMARI did not get the clearest of passages in the home straight and did not act in the heavy going when ending up in fifth spot last time out over a mile, just under four and a half lengths behind the winner. The gelding has his first run for his new trainer and after a 33-week break without having had the benefit of a barrier trial, so his fitness will have to be taken on trust, but if fully settled into his new surroundings, he should give a good account of himself here, jumping from gate six.

Race 7

ZOUATICA is a five-time winner from nine starts, the latest over seven furlongs by 2.8L and he has finished third in a subsequent barrier trial. The gelding raced three wide without cover in that last event but shot clear of the opposition at the top of the home straight to record a comfortable win. He faces a wide draw thirteen, but he is a speedy sort who should be able to work his way across without using up too much energy.

BANDI’S BOY has won two of his last four starts and followed up his penultimate run victory over six furlongs with a third-place finish next time out over 1100M, just over one and a half lengths back from the winner, but that was at a stronger centre, and he was disappointed for a run at the 100M pole. The gelding will have to deal with a wider gate seventeen but will be having his peak run after returning from an 11-week rest.

MISSILE LEADER on the other hand has won two of his last three outings, the latest over a mile by two lengths, when delivering a powerful finish over the closing stages to win going away. He also faces a wide draw, in his case at ten, but he should be included in all bets.

Race 8

A 3-year-old and two 4-year-old fillies could fight out the finish to this race and complete the trifecta, but the day’s best bet, DESTRUCTIVE DIVA is taken to lead the field home. She has consistent formlines to her name and had to be held up at 200M mark before finishing strongly from some way back to end up in fourth place last time out over seven furlongs, three and a half lengths behind the victor. She jumps from gate seven and could prove hard to topple.

OCCHIATA goes for her hat-trick after victories over 1300M and the latest over seven furlongs by three and a half lengths, notwithstanding being hampered at the start and finding herself towards the back of the field. The filly finished strongly to win easing down and despite a wide draw nine, she could be the biggest danger to the top choice.

STORMY WITNESS jumped awkwardly but finished strongly to end up in tenth spot in her latest outing over seven furlongs, eight and a half lengths adrift of the victor. She is drawn one inside the latter and will be having her peak run after an 18-week absence.
