Race 5

This looks to be a tricky race to start the day’s Jackpot with plenty of runners in with a realistic chance of finding the winner’s box, so some caution is suggested. DON’T FORGET DAD has finished closer to the winner in each of his last three starts, the latest when third over seven furlongs, 0.8L behind the winner. He faces a wide draw twelve out of thirteen, but he should use his early gate speed to move across without expending too much energy.

GOLDEN BREEZE on the other hand has cracked pole position and followed up his penultimate run victory over 1100M with a fourth place finish next time out over six furlongs, 2.3L back from the winner, but he had to be held up at the entrance to the home straight that day and was then checked at the 100M mark, so that effort was encouraging.

ALL TOO SNEAKY is a 3yr old filly taking on the boys, but she has consistent formlines to her name, winning three runs back and then finishing third in her last two starts, the latest over 1300M, just over a half length behind the winner. She jumped awkwardly in that event, but recovered quickly to race just behind the leaders and then stayed on well over the closing stages. She faces a wide gate ten, but she should be doing her best work late.

Race 6

BANTARKI had his consistency rewarded with a victory last time out over five furlongs, albeit by just a short-head. He sat up in third place and then finished strongly to get up in the shadow of the post. The gelding jumps from draw five and could provide jockey Aaron Bullock with the first two winners in the day’s Jackpot.

IMATRUESTAR had solid form prior to being a little disappointing when finishing seventh last time out over seven furlongs, 3.7L adrift of the victor, but he jumped awkwardly bumping another runner in that contest and then did not get the clearest of passages in the home straight, so that effort is best ignored. The gelding will have  4kgs removed from his allocated weight courtesy of his claiming apprentice and is sure to put his pole position to good use. He does return from a 26 week break, but has won his only barrier trial to prove his well-being.

MY ONE is a 5yr old mare taking on males, but she battled all the way down to the wire when finishing third in her latest outing over five furlongs, just over two lengths back from the winner. She will have to negotiate a wide gate twelve, but on the plus side, she will have 1.5kgs taken off her back for the services of her claiming apprentice. In addition, she will also have cheek pieces fitted for the first time and if these have the desired effect, she should be a big runner here.

Race 7

The day’s value bet, SUPERIUM had to be held up between the 500M and 300M mark, but stayed on well when eventually in the clear to finish third last time out over 1500M, 2.7L off the winner. That was at a stronger center and on that effort, he should have no problem dealing with the step up in journey. The gelding gets a useful draw three and may prove hard to topple.

HOLSTEIN had to be held up at the 600M mark and then checked at the 500M pole when finishing in third place last time out over 2100M, 3.8L adrift of the victor. The gelding has a cozy draw two and with better luck in running, he should be right up there when they hit the line.

SPECIAL SWEY overraced in the middle stages when eighth last time out over 1900M, just under six lengths behind the winner, but that was at a stronger center. He has pulled gate seven and should be included in all bets.

Race 8

ALICIA ROMA is a 5yr old mare taking on males, but she missed out on her hat-trick after two victories over five furlongs when finishing second last time out over the same c&d, just a half length behind the winner. She was returning from a 27 week spell that day and showed plenty of toe. She is drawn in gate five and is taken to be the best bet on the day’s card.

DEBUSSY had solid form prior to finishing twelfth last time out over five furlongs, 5.2L off the winner, but he had to be steadied off the heels of another runner at the 700M mark and then had to weave his way through traffic in the home straight, so he had his excuses. That was also at a stronger center and notwithstanding a wide draw nine, he could be the biggest danger to the top pick.

POITA won over five furlongs three runs back, finished fourth in his penultimate start over the same sprint trip and then second in his latest outing, again over five furlongs, one length behind the winner. He is drawn one inside the latter and should be involved in the finish.
