Race 4

There are seven unraced runners in the field, so as is always the case in these types of races, a keen eye should be kept on the betting markets to get some indication as to whether any of the connection believe that they can win first time out. Any betting support for a runner or runners should be respected.

Of the raced runners, COMPELLING TRUTH may prove to be the best. He showed plenty of toe when finishing third on debut over five furlongs, 1.2L behind the winner. He would have learnt from that experience and with the natural improvement that can be expected, he could be the one that they all have to beat.

EURYDICE is a filly taking on the boys, but she has turned in two solid last performances and although recorded as finishing fifth last time out over five furlongs, she was just over a length and a half back from the winner. She has only had the three runs to date and although drawn wide in gate ten, she should not be lightly dismissed.

CAPTAIN BOND is the stable companion to the latter and has his first start, but he has won both of his barrier trial in fine style and if not too green in the running, he should be right up there when they hit the line. His handy draw three will do him no harm and he should be included in all bets.

Race 5

SELHURST PARK had his consistency rewarded with his maiden win last time out over five furlongs, albeit by just a head. He is a speedy sort who led the field into the home straight before holding off al the late challengers in the dash down to the wire. He faces a wideish draw nine, but he should use his early gate speed to move across without expending too much energy and is taken to be the value bet on the day’s card.

Two 3yr old fillies could chase him home, with the slight preference going to CHIMES who is seldom far off the action, finishing second last time out over 1100M, 1.8L off the winner when returning from a 31 week break. She is another who shows plenty of pace and was only run out of it late in that last outing. She is drawn the widest of them all in gate twelve, but she should be able to work her way across without using up too much gas.

BRIEF STATEMENT followed up her penultimate run victory over five furlongs with a second spot finish next time out over 1100M, 0.8L behind the winner when returning from a shorter 24 week rest. She had to be steadied off the heels of other runners early on in that contest and then came four wide into the home stretch, before staying on well over the closing stages. From her kinder gate six, she should be right up there in the mix.

Race 6

LUKEY LUKE has consistent formlines to his name and put 4.3L between himself and the opposition to win his maiden race last time out over 1500M. He came three wide into the home straight that day, before hitting the front at the 350m mark to win going away, this despite racing green over the closing stages. He is drawn in gate five and will be having his peak run since returning from a 22 week absence. The gelding gets ex-SA jockey Keagan Latham in the irons, so will get all the necessary assistance from the saddle.

ANYTHINK GOES is drawn one inside the top pick and put his disappointing penultimate effort firmly behind him when ending up in third place last time out over a mile, 1.3L behind the winner. He tried to go from jump to wire that day, but shifted out from the 150M pole, which did his cause no good at all. He steps up in distance today, but he may well be looking for this greater test of stamina.

LET’S KARAKA DEEL hung in from the 200M mark when finishing sixth last time out over ten furlongs, three and a half lengths adrift of the victor. He will have to negotiate draw eight and will be having his second run after returning from a 41 week break, but the fact that his connections have brought him back into racing after such a lengthy absence would seem to suggest that they believe that he still has something more to offer them.

Race 7

The day’s best bet, THIS’LLBETHEONE has won two out of two, the latest over 1500m by a head and could be just about anything. The form of that race has stood up well with three runners out of that contest subsequently winning. He does return from a 19 week break, but he finished third in his first barrier trial and fourth in the latest to showcase his well-being. From his useful draw five, he could prove hard to topple here.

DEVIL’S THROAT had finished second in his two runs prior to winning his latest outing over six furlongs by 0.8L. He was crowed shortly after the start that day, but struck the front at the 200M mark before holding off all the late challengers. The gelding gets draw seven and could emerge as the biggest danger to the top choice.

ZELADY LUCK is a 3yr old filly taking on males, but she has won two of her last three starts, the latest over 1300M by one and a half lengths when going from gun to tape, kicking clear of the field at the top of the home straight and then holding off all the late challengers. She will have to overcome a wide draw eleven, but she is likely to use her early speed to shoot across without burning up too much fuel.
