Race 5

ZANARDEE’S LANE had finished second in his two runs prior to winning his maiden race last time out over 1100M by 2.3L. He was returning from a 19-week rest that day and struck the front at the 100M mark to cruise to a comfortable victory. He will have to negotiate a wide draw nine and does take on stronger here, but he may well be up to the task at hand and is made the best bet on the day’s card.

TAYLA’S ONE is a 4yr old filly taking on the boys, but she has consistent formlines to her name and followed up her penultimate run victory over six furlongs with a second-place finish next time out over seven furlongs, one and a half lengths back from the winner, despite hanging out from the 400M mark. She is drawn one inside the top choice, but will have 1.5kgs taken off her back thanks to her claiming apprentice and could be the biggest threat to the former.

BERKINSON has finished closer to the winner in each of his last three starts, the latest when second over 1100M, just a head behind the winner. The gelding finished strongly that day, suggesting that the extra distance on offer here will be to his liking. He has a handy draw four, will be having his peak run after returning from a 17-week break and should be involved in the finish.

Race 6

The day’s value bet, PIPPEN showed solid improvement to win his last start over a mile by one and a half lengths. He finished strongly from some way back to win going away on that occasion and from his useful gate four, he will be looking to chalk up his fourth career victory today.

MORE THAN DISCREET had to be steadied approaching the home turn, but stayed on well to end up in third place last time out over a mile, 2.2L behind the winner and the form of that race has been franked. The gelding has a wideish draw eight, but he should be right up there when they hit the line.

CUPID’S KISS is a 4yr old filly taking on males, but she raced three wide throughout when finishing fourth in her latest outing over six furlongs, 2.2L off the winner. She has a wider draw ten, but she should be doing her best work late.

Race 7

This looks to be a tricky race with plenty of runners in with a realistic chance of finding the winner’s box, so some caution is suggested. STRATUM CHIEF goes for his hat-trick after victories over six furlongs and the latest a one-and-a-half length victory over seven furlongs. He went from jump to wire in that event and from his wide draw eleven, he is likely to attempt the same tactics today and prove hard to reel in.
A 3yr old and a 4yr old filly could chase him home with the slight preference going to WHITE ARENDELLE who has only had two runs to date, finishing second on debut over six furlongs and then showing the expected improvement to win next time out over 1300M by one length. She raced just behind the leaders that day, kicking clear of the opposition at the top of the home straight, before fending off all the late challengers in the dash down to the wire.
She on the other hand has a cozy draw two and should be considered a big runner in this line-up.

STELLAR STYLE has consistent formlines to her name and followed up her penultimate run victory over 1500M with a fifth-place finish next time out over 1100M, 1.7L back from the winner. She was returning from a 17-week rest that day but stayed on well over the closing stages. She has pulled gate seven and should be included in all bets.

Race 8

CLUNY ROAD has cracked pole position and has won two of his last three starts, the latest over five furlongs by two and a half lengths. He was slow away on that occasion, but recovered quickly to sit just behind the leaders before taking over the lead at the entrance of the home stretch and then fighting off all the late challengers in the dash down to the winning post. The gelding will have 1.5kgs removed from his allocated weight courtesy of his claiming apprentice and looks to be the one to side with here.

UNCERTAIN TERMS overraced in the early stages and then hung out approaching the home turn when finishing fifth last time out over five furlongs, 3.2L adrift of the victor. He in turn is drawn the widest of them all in gate fourteen, but he should use his early gate speed to move across without expending too much energy.

TITAN STAR raced just off the pace before battling all the way down to the wire to finish fourth last time out over five furlongs, 2.7L behind the winner and on that effort, he should appreciate the drop in trip.
