Race 3

SUPRINA is a 4yr old filly taking on the boys, but she completed her hat-trick, all over today’s sprint trip, when winning last time out by just over two lengths. She showed plenty of toe that day and was never under any sever pressure over the closing stages. She gets gate five and the quartet of victories is very much on the cards.

COAL CRUSHER had his consistency rewarded when putting 4.3L between himself and the opposition to win last time out over 1300M and the form of that race has stood up well with four runners out of that contest subsequently winning. He is a speedy sort who finished second over this trip three runs back, so the drop in distance should not be an issue. The gelding returns from an 18 break, but has had two barrier trials, finishing third in the latest. He jumps from a wideish gate seven, but gets ex-SA jockey Glyn Schofield in the irons, so will get all the necessary assistance from the saddle.

WASHINGTON TOWERS showed marked to win his last start over five furlongs by one and a half lengths when returning from a 17 week break. He was friendless in the betting markets that day and tried to go from jump to wire, only to be overhauled close to home. From his kinder draw three and if he is able to repeat that last effort, he should be a big runner in this line-up.

Race 4

The day’s best bet, AIRCRAFTMAN has consistent formlines to his name, having finished second in two of his last three runs, the latest over 1250M, 2.3L behind the winner, this despite overracing in the middle stages. He battled all the way down to the wire that day and jumping from gate six, he will be looking to go one better here.

POWER OVERREACH was slow away and overraced in the early stages before staying on well when making his debut over 1100M, just over three and a half lengths back from the winner. He would have learnt from that experience and with the natural improvement that can be expected, he could emerge as the biggest danger to the top choice.

ILIANA is a 4yr old filly taking on males, but she made solid improvement when finishing third last time out over five furlongs, 2.3L off the winner. She was slow away that day and then only saw daylight at the 200M mark, before finishing off her race well. She returns from a 59 week spell, but she has had the benefit of four barrier trials to prove her well-being. She faces a wideish gate eight out of nine, but the fact that her connections have brought her back into racing after such a lengthy absence would seem to suggest that they believe that she still has something more to offer them.

Race 5

With the late scratching of one of his main rivals, the door may have opened for today’s value bet, MENTALISM to chalk up his second career victory. He is seldom far off the action and finished third last time out over five furlongs, just over a length behind the winner, notwithstanding hanging out in the home straight. He will have to overcome a wide draw ten, but he gets the services of ex-SA jockey Keagan Latham, who was aboard when he won over five furlongs three runs back.

RIVER MAC has finished closer to the winner in each of his last three runs, the latest when third over five furlongs, just over half a length adrift of the victor. He was slow away on that occasion and then hung in from the 150M pole, so should have finished closer to the victor that he officially did.

EVE ‘N’ RUBY is a 3yr old filly taking on males, but she showed solid improvement to win her last start over 1100M by a head when returning from a 17 week absence. She raced towards the back of the field in that contest and came three wide into the home stretch, before unleashing a powerful finish to get up to claim victory in the shadow of the post. From gate six, she should be right up there when they hit the line.

Race 6

A 3yr old filly and a 5yr old mare could fight out the finish to this race and complete the exacta, but THOUSAND YEARS gets the nod for top spot. She followed up her penultimate run victory over 1500M with a second place finish next time out over seven furlongs, 2.3L behind the winner. She was returning from a 23 week spell that day and was slowly away, finding herself towards the back of the field, but then finished strongly over the latter stages. She will have to negotiate draw eight, but she looks to be the one to side with here.

ENDURING NIGHT showed good improvement when dropping down to 1300M, ending up in third place, just under two and a half lengths back from the winner when returning from a similar 23 week break. She finished off her race well from some wat off the pace that day and from a cozy gate two, she should keep the top pick honest.

ISLAND BAY BOY also won his penultimate start, but in his case over a mile and then finished seventh over the same journey, four and a half lengths behind the winner next time out. He tried to go from jump to wire that day and from draw nine, he is likely to adopt similar tactics today.
