Race 4
TAPA KICK is a 2yr old gelding taking on older horses, but he finished second on debut over seven furlongs, just a half-length behind the winner, this after racing three wide throughout. He finished off his race strongly that day and the form of that contest has stood up well with two runners out of that event subsequently winning. He would have learnt from that experience and with the natural improvement that can be expected, he could be the one that they all have to beat and is made the best bet on the day’s card, despite being drawn wide in gate nine.
SILENT RUSSIAN finished third in his first run and then made the expected improvement to finish second next time out over six furlongs, 1.8L behind the winner. He struck the front at the 250M mark and was only run out of it late. He does have his first run for his new trainer and if fully settled into his new surroundings, he should give a good account of himself here, jumping from draw six.
OMIANS is drawn one inside the latter and a 3yr old filly taking on the boys, but she finished well to end up in second place when making her debut over 1100M, just a head back from the winner. She hung out over the closing stages in that event and returns here after a 22-week break, but she did finish fourth in her only barrier trial to prove her fitness and should be involved in the finish. There is an unraced runner in the field, so keep an eye on the betting markets to get some indication as to whether his connections believe that they can win first time out. Any betting support for him should be respected.
Race 5
TILLMAN has finished closer to the winner in each of his last three starts, the latest when fourth over seven furlongs, just over two and a half lengths behind the winner, this after losing a length at the start. The gelding battled all the way down to the wire and from a handy draw three and with him having his peak run after returning from a 20 week rest, he could provide jockey Aaron Bullock with the first two winners in the day’s Jackpot.
NAVAL COMMISSION showed solid improvement in his last two runs, completing his maiden win last time out over seven furlongs by just under a half-length. He was returning from a 26-week spell that day and although drawn wide in gate fourteen, he should use his early gate speed to move across without expending too much energy.
KEEN CONTRIBUTER is a 5yr old mare taking on males. She disappointed last time out over seven furlongs, ending up 10.8L adrift of the victor, but she lost a length at the start and that was also at a stronger center. The form of that race has however been franked and she has cracked pole position to aid her cause.
Race 6
EXTRA SMART is a 4yr old filly taking on boys, but she has consistent formlines to her name, finishing second last time out over five furlongs, beaten just a short-head. It should be noted that she was disappointed for a run at the 300M mark, before staying on well over the latter stages and the objection laid by her connections against the winner for that incident was overruled and the original result was allowed to stand. She is sure to put her pole position to good use in an endeavour to make amends today.
GOLDEN FIGHTER won on debut over five furlongs by one and a half lengths and was then hampered at the start before racing three wide without cover to end up in third place next time out over the same sprint trip, 0.9L behind the winner and was immediately rested for 44 weeks. He returns here after having had four barrier trials, finishing fourth in his last two. The gelding has pulled a cosy gate two and should be right up there when they hit the line.
ENZINA is a 3yr old filly who put her disappointing penultimate run behind her when finishing second last time out over 1100M, just a short-head behind the winner when returning from a 20-week rest. She had to be held up at the top of the home stretch that day, but delivered a powerful finish to just fail to overhaul the winner. She will have to deal with a wide draw ten, but she should be doing her best work late.
Race 7
TAKETHESHOT won over six furlongs three runs back, finished fifteenth in his penultimate start over six furlongs and then second in his latest outing over seven furlongs, just a head behind the winner. He raced three wide approaching the home turn that day, but managed to kick clear of the field at the 150M mark, only to be snared in the shadow of the post. The gelding has a useful draw two and is taken to be the value bet on the day’s program.
SHEN GUI sat just behind the leaders before accelerating smartly to win his last outing over six furlongs by a length. He is drawn one outside the top pick and could emerge as his biggest threat.
HARD TO DISMISS is 4yo old filly taking on males, but she is seldom far off the action, finishing third last time out over six furlongs, 2.8L back from the winner, but she jumped awkwardly that day, before staying on well over the latter stages. She gets gate five and should be included in all bets.
