Race 5

There are four unraced runners in the field, so as is always the case in these types of races, a keen eye should be kept on the betting markets to get some indication as to whether any of the connections believe that they can win first-time out. Any betting support for a runner or runners should be respected. Of the raced runners, VIS I DO may well prove to be the best. He has finished third in two of his last three starts, the latest over seven furlongs, just over a half-length behind the winner. He was slow away that day, but made good late progress over the closing stages and whilst drawn wide in gate twelve, be should be doing his best work late. The gelding will also be having his peak run after returning from a 16-week break.

RUPERT’S BOY has finished closer to the winner in each of his last three starts, the latest when fifth over 1300M, just under a length back from the winner. He returns from a 21-week rest and has his first run for his new trainer, but has had the benefit of a barrier trial and if fully settled into his new surroundings, he should give a good account of himself here.

FLYING MIRACLE put his disappointing penultimate run behind him when finishing second in his latest outing over 1300M, just a half-length off the winner, despite jumping awkwardly. He finished well from just off the pace that day and whilst he will have to negotiate a wide draw eleven, but he should use his early gate speed to move across without expending too much energy.

Race 6

CLIFTON SPRINGS has cracked pole position and moved up well at the 250M mark, looking like a possible winner, but did not quite go on with the effort, ending up in fourth place last time out over five furlongs, two lengths behind the winner. He will get 4kgs taken off his back thanks to his claiming apprentice and could be the one to side with here.

CANNOLI is a 3yr old filly taking on the boys and showed plenty of toe when winning her last start over six furlongs by just under a half-length and the form of that race has stood up well with three runners out of that contest subsequently winning. She has her first run after a 14-week absence and for her new trainer, without having had the benefit of a barrier trial, so her fitness will have to be taken on trust, but if fully settled into her new surroundings, she should give a good account of herself here.

SHIKANIC tried to go from jump to wire when finishing sixth last time out over 1100M, just over three and a half lengths adrift of the victor, but the form of that race has been franked. The gelding resumes after a 19-week break and is another one that has not had a barrier trial, but he gets a kinder draw two and is likely to attempt similar frontrunning tactics today.

Race 7

The day’s value bet, OH NO BRO has turned in two solid last runs, the latest when second over 1300M, 2.3L behind the winner, but he lost a length at the start, before producing a powerful finish over the latter stages, suggesting that the extra ground on offer today will be to his liking. The gelding jumps from gate six and will be hoping to go one better today.

RIVER ROCKET had solid form prior to being a tad disappointing when finishing tenth in his latest outing over six furlongs, six and a half lengths back from the winner, but he did race wide into the home stretch on that occasion but still stayed on well. He will have 2kgs removed from his allocated weight courtesy of his claiming apprentice and should put his pole position to good use. I’M ON BREAK was returning from a 15-week rest and raced just behind the leaders when showing good improvement to finish fourth last time out over 1300M, 1.8L back from the winner. He has pulled draw seven and will also have 2kgs taken off his back for the services of his claiming apprentice.

Race 8

A 3yr old and a 4yr old filly could fight out the finish to this race and complete the exacta, but the day’s best bet AKAUWHEO is taken to lead the field home. She has consistent formlines to her name and followed up her penultimate run victory over seven furlongs with a fifth-place finish next time out over 1300M, just under two back from the winner and was immediately rested for 21 weeks. The form of that last race has been franked and she returns here after having had two barrier trials and will be looking to chalk up her second career victory from just the four outings to date.

EVER BELLA finished sixth last time out over six furlongs, just over four lengths behind the winner in her first run for her new trainer. She would have come on further with that run under her belt and gets a set of blinkers re-fitted. If this move has the desired effect, she should be a big runner here, jumping from gate six.

UNTOUCHABLE ED is seldom too far off the action, finishing fourth last time out over a mile, 2.8L back from the winner. The gelding has his first run for his new stable and although drawn wide in gate nineteen, he is likely to turn in another honest performance today to be involved in the finish.
