Race 4

BAY STREET has finished second in his last three starts, the latest over a mile, 1.3L back from the winner. He raced just behind the leaders that day and then made good late progress over the closing stages, suggesting that the extra ground on offer today will be to his liking. He will have to negotiate draw ten, but he will be hoping to go one better here and is made the best bet on the day’s card.

HYPERTENSION has finished closer to the winner in each of his last three runs, the latest when second over this c&d, beaten a short-head. He tried to go from jump to wire that day and from his handy draw two, he is likely to attempt similar tactics today and could prove hard to reel in over the latter stages.

SERENADE THE CAT is a 6yr old mare taking on the boys and battled all the way down to the wire when ending up in sixth place in her latest outing over a mile, 4.8L back from the winner and the form of that race has been franked. She is drawn one outside the latter and should be involved in the finish.

Race 5

DIVINE COURAGE has won two of his last three starts, the latest over six furlongs by just under a length. The gelding raced three wide approaching the home turn, but struck the front shortly thereafter and then held off the chasing pack in the dash down to the wire. He is drawn the widest of them all in gate nine, but he should use his early gate speed to move across without expending too much energy.

Two 3yr old fillies could chase him home, with the slight preference going to PLAYGIRL who has only had the two runs to date, winning on debut over five furlongs and then finishing second next time out when stepping up to six furlongs, two lengths behind the winner. She showed plenty of toe that day and from a useful draw two, she could emerge as the biggest danger to the top choice.

LADY FALVELON is the stable companion to the latter and has shown solid improvement in her last two starts, winning the latest, the race mentioned above involving her stable mate. She is however 3kgs worse off at today’s weights and is drawn wider in gate seven, so she may find it difficult to confirm that last result. Nevertheless, she makes a solid backup for the yard.

Race 6

The day’s value bet, I AM VOODOO finished sixth first time out over five furlongs and then showed the expected improvement to win next time out over six furlongs by a half-length. He finished strongly that day and the form of that last race has been franked. He faces a wide draw nine out of ten, but he should be doing his best work late.

Two 3yr old fillies could pursue him home, but MEDIA SCANDAL gets the nod for second spot. She has cracked pole position and followed up her penultimate run victory over 1100M with a second-place finish next time out over five furlongs, just over two lengths adrift of the winner, when returning from an 18-week break. She overraced in the early and middle stages of that contest and with her having 2kgs taken off her back thanks to her claiming apprentice, she should be right up there when they hit the line.

CENTRE BOUNCE made solid improvement to win her last start over six furlongs by just over a length. She struck the front at the 150M mark that day and then stayed on well over the latter stages. She jumps from draw five and should be included in all bets.

Race 7

There are four unraced runners in the field, so as is always the case in these types of races, a keen eye should be kept on the betting markets to get some indication as to whether any of the connections believe that they can win first-time out. Any betting support for a runner or runners should be respected. Of the raced runners TOOMUCHINFORMATION may well prove to be the best. His last four runs have produced two seconds, a third and then a fourth-place finish last time out over 1100M, 4.8L adrift of the victor, but he overraced early and then had to be checked at the 600M pole in that event. The gelding gets a cosy draw three and could be the one that they all have to beat.

COOL FIZZ is a 3yr old filly taking on males, but she finished third on debut over five furlongs, two and a half lengths behind the winner, but she was bumped and carried wide at the 800M mark, but still managed to finish off her race well. She would have learnt from that experience and with the natural improvement that can be expected and with 1.5kgs removed from her allocated weight courtesy of her claiming apprentice, she should give the boys a good run for their money.

SEA OF QI had consistent formlines to his name prior to finishing fourteenth last time out over 1300M, 17.6L back from the winner and was immediately rested for 20 weeks. He was slow away that day and overraced throughout, so understandably had nothing to offer in the home straight. He returns here after winning his only barrier trial and although drawn wide in gate nine, he should not be lightly dismissed.
