Race 5

The day’s best bet, JACK DUGGAN put 8.8L between himself and the opposition to win his last race over a mile. He sat just off the pace and then kicked clear of the field at the 200M mark to put the race to sleep at that point. He gets gate six and could prove hard to topple.

SKY ACE was won three of his last five outings, the latest over 2100M by half a length. The gelding turned second into the home straight and then finished off his race well. From his handy draw three, he could emerge as the biggest danger to the top choice.

WHITE BOOTS has cracked pole position and put his disappointing penultimate run over nine furlongs behind him when finishing fifth last time out over a mile, just 2.2L off the winner. He only saw daylight at the 300M mark that day, so that effort was encouraging and he should be involved in the finish.

Race 6

ARALE goes for her hat-trick after two victories over seven furlongs, albeit the latest by just a short-head. She struck the front at the 300M pole and despite hanging out in the home straight, she fought off the chasing pack in the dash down to the wire. She returns from a 16-week rest but has finished third in her only barrier trial to showcase her well-being.

STAR MISTRESS won by just under a half-length when making her debut over six furlongs. She showed plenty of speed that day, but hung in badly from the 150M, making it difficult for her jockey to assist her fully. She would have learnt from that experience and with the natural improvement that can be expected and from her kinder draw five, she should be right up there when they hit the line.

VERY SHARP made solid improvement to win her last start over 1100M by 0.8L. She found herself towards the back of the field in that contest and had to come three wide into the home stretch, but made good late progress in claiming victory close to home, suggesting that she should appreciate the extra ground on offer today.

Race 7

There are three unraced runners in the field, so as is always the case in these types of races, a keen eye should be kept on the betting markets to get some indication as to whether any of the connections believe that they can win first-time out. Any betting support for a runner or runners should be respected. Of the raced runners LUCKY VARIETY may prove to be the best. She finished fifth over 1100M first time out and then made the expected improvement to finish second in her next start over six furlongs, 1.8L off the winner, but it should be noted that she had to be eased at the 1000M mark, before overracing in the middle stages and having to be eased off the heels of other runners at the 800M pole and eventually coming four wide into the home straight. She resumes after a 21-week break, but has put in two encouraging barrier trials and from her useful gate three, she looks to be the one to side with here.

ISHANI showed plenty of toe when ending up in fourth place first time out over 1100M, finishing three and a half lengths adrift of the winner. She would have learnt with the run under her belt and whilst she has her first run after returning from a longer 29-week absence, but did finish fifth in her only barrier trial. She will have to negotiate gate nine, but she should improve further to prove competitive in this line-up.

ESPRIT LUCAND finished third on debut over five furlongs, but then disappointed to end up in 12th spot last time out over 1100M, just over thirteen lengths behind the winner, but her jockey reported that she got stirred up before the start of that race and was vetted down at the gates, so that effort is best ignored. She faces a wife draw sixteen, but nevertheless, she should be included in all bets.

Race 8

MORALIST had solid form before being a tad disappointing when finishing fifth in his latest outing over 1100M, just over six and a half lengths behind the winner, but that was in very heavy going where he tried to go from jump to wire and came four wide into the home straight, which would not have helped his cause. He has pulled gate five and is made the value bet on the day’s card.

BRIARS KINGDOM showed marked improvement to finish eighth last time out over 1300M, just two lengths back from the victor, notwithstanding coming four wide approaching the home turn, but staying on well over the latter stages. The gelding has a wideish draw eight and returns from a 20-week spell, but did finish fourth in his only barrier trial.

OPERATIVE finished fifth first time out over 1100M and then won his next start when stepping up to today’s trip by one and a half lengths, when returning from an 18 week break. He had to be checked off the heels of other runners at the 900M mark, but then hit the front at the 250M mark to win going away. The colt faces a wide gate twelve, but he should use his early gate speed to move across without expending too much energy.
