Race 5

YASUKE won over today’s journey three runs back, finished sixth in his penultimate start over seven furlongs and then fourth in his latest outing over the same seven furlongs, 1.2L behind the winner, but he did jump awkwardly that day, bumping another runner. He gets gate five and is taken to be the best bet on the day’s card.

SPALTET won by one length over this c&d last time out when having his peak run for his new trainer. He too jumped awkwardly bumping another runner and then overraced in the middle stages, before hanging out down the home straight, so he had his excuses. The gelding jumps from draw seven and could be the biggest threat to the top choice.

TAGS has won two of his last three runs, the latest over a mile by 2.3L. He struck the front at the 230M mark to win going away and from his handy gate four, he should be involved in the finish.

Race 6

FALL FOR CINDY put her disappointing penultimate start over ten furlongs behind her to finishing second last time out when dropping down to 1300M, just a half length back from the winner. She was returning from an 18 week rest on that occasion and came the widest of them all into the home straight, but was still able to make good late progress over the closing stages, suggesting that the extra ground on offer here will be to her liking. She has a useful gate four and could provide champion jockey James McDonald with the first two winners in the day’s Jackpot.

ITHADTOBEZOU raced just behind the leaders and then stayed on well to end up in fourth place last time out over six furlongs, 2.2L back from the victor and the form of that race has been franked. She has a wide draw ten to deal with, but she has her peak run after returning from an 18 week break and she should be able to use her early gate speed to move across without expending too much energy.

SMART LITTLE MISS is seldom too far off the action, finishing fourth last time out over 1300M, just under three lengths back from the winner, but she did not get the clearest of passages in the home straight that day, only seeing daylight at the 200M mark before finishing off her race well. She has a kinder draw three and should be included in all bets.

Race 7

This looks to be a tricky race with plenty of runners in with a realistic chance of finding the winner’s box, so some caution is suggested. EPICUS goes for his hat-trick after victories over seven furlongs and the latest over 1500M by one and a half lengths, despite coming three wide into the home straight. He has his first run since a 13 week rest, but he has had two barrier trials, finishing fourth in the first and second in the latest. The gelding jumps from gate five and the trio is very much on the cards.

LAVISH EMPIRE had solid form prior to finishing tenth last time out over 1100M, just over five lengths adrift of the winner, but he stayed on well from some way back on that occasion and should relish the extra distance. He faces a wide draw eleven, but he has his peak run for his new trainer and since returning from a 16 week absence. He will be hoping to bounce back to his better form today.

SILENTSAR settled in just behind the frontrunners and was bumped at the 300M pole before staying on strongly to end up in third spot last time out over six furlongs, 1.3L back from the winner. He faces a wider gate twelve, but he is a speedy sort who should be able to work his way across without using up too much gas.

Race 8

The day’s value bet, WAIKIKI has consistent formlines to her name and followed up her penultimate run victory over this c&d with a third place finish next time out also over the same trip, just over a length and a half back from the winner and the form of that race has been franked. She does return from a 17 week rest, but has turned in two encouraging barrier trials and from her cozy draw two, she could deliver the powerful Chris Waller yard the first and last legs of the day’s Jackpot.

AFTERLIGHT is the stable companion to the top choice and has his hat-trick run after wins over five furlongs and the latest over 1100M when putting three and a half lengths between herself and the balance of the field. She was returning from an 18 week spell that day and showed plenty of toe. She will have to overcome a wide draw nine, but even so, she could prove hard to reel in over the latter stages and she makes a solid back-up for the yard.

SHADOWS OF LOVE had to weave her way through traffic in the home straight when ending up in seventh spot last time out over 1100M, just under four lengths adrift of the winner, so that effort is best ignored. She gets a kinder draw five and will have non- claiming apprentice, Zac Lloyd, son of ex-SA champion jockey, Jeff Lloyd in the irons to aid her cause.
