Race 4

GREEN SHADOWS has finished second in two of his last three runs, the latest over 1300M, 2.8L behind the winner, when returning from an 18-week rest and has had the benefit of a barrier trial since then. He lost a length at the start in that last outing and overraced throughout, before having to be held up in the home straight. The form of that race has been franked and from his handy draw three and with having 1.5kgs taken off his back thanks to his claiming apprentice, Zac Lloyd, son of ex-SA champion jockey, Jeff Lloyd, he is made the best bet on the day’s card.

GROWL won over six furlongs three runs back, finished tenth in his penultimate start over 1100M and then third in his latest outing over six furlongs, just under three lengths behind the winner, but he had to weave his way through traffic in the home straight from some way back in that event, so that effort was encouraging. The gelding has a useful gate two and could emerge as the biggest danger to the top choice.

ABLE WILLIE overraced just behind the leaders, but still managed to stay on well over the closing stages to end up in third place last time out over 1300M, just a length behind the winner. From draw four, he should be involved in the finish.

Race 5

The day’s value bet, GIVARA had his consistency rewarded with a 0.8L victory last time out over six furlongs, this after being slow away, coming the widest into the home straight and hanging in down the home stretch, but he still managed to find a strong finish. He has pulled a cosy draw three and should turn in another honest performance today.

DEEP SNOW was returning from a 26-week break and had to be held up from the 200M before ending up in sixth place last time out over 1100M, 3.2L back from the winner. The gelding is drawn the widest of them all in gate twelve, but on the plus side, he will get 1.5kgs taken off his back thanks to his claiming apprentice, Zac Lloyd to aid his cause.

MASTER SHOWMAN has consistent formlines to his name and was slow away, but battled all the way down to the wire when finishing second last time out over 1300M by a head. The colt has a wide draw nine, but he should be right up there when they hit the line.

Race 6

NOSTALGIA finished fourth on debut over six furlongs and then showed the expected improvement to win her next start over the same c&d by putting three lengths between herself and the opposition. She was returning from a 27-week spell that day and raced just behind the pace, before striking the front entering the home straight and then holding off all the late challengers in the dash down to the wire. The form of that race has been franked and from draw three, she could prove hard to topple.

OTTILIE is seldom far off the action, staying on well when finishing fourth last time out over six furlongs, just over a length back from the winner. She will have to negotiate a wide gate nine, but will be having her peak run after returning from an 18-week absence and will also get the services of 1,5kg claiming Zac Lloyd.

SMART LITTLE MISS has finished first, second and then third last time out over five furlongs, three and a half lengths behind the winner in her last three outings. She was returning from a 16-week rest on that occasion and did jump awkwardly, finding herself towards the back of the field and forced to come the widest of them all into the home stretch. The form of that race has however been franked and from gate five, she should be included in all bets.

Race 7

MUTAMANNI missed out on his hat-trick after victories over nine furlongs and seven furlongs when finishing ninth last time out over a mile, four lengths adrift of the winner in what was his second run in Australia since relocating from France. The gelding will be having his peak run since returning from a lengthy 84-week break and from a handy draw four, he could complete a red-letter day for Zac Lloyd.

REDWOOD SHADOW showed solid improvement to finish fourth last time out over seven furlongs, 1.3L behind the winner. He finished off his race strongly, suggesting that the extra ground on offer today will be to his liking. The gelding is drawn one inside the top pick and will have the blinkers re-fitted for today’s race. If this move has the desired effect, he should be a big runner here.

CENTRESTONE is a 4yr old filly taking on the boys and is the stable companion to the top choice and another one who missed out on her hat-trick after wins over 1700M and 1300M when finishing fifth last time out over a mile, 3.3L behind the winner. She did over race in the early stages that day, so she had her excuse. She gets gate five and will have her peak run after returning from a 20-week rest and makes a solid backup for the powerful Chris Waller yard.
