Remember the old Wheel of Fortune-type gameshows that were popular toward the back end of the 20th century? Well, Crazy Time takes the format and gives it the sort of makeover that Ty Pennington would be proud of. Presented by a cast of young, vibrant hosts, Crazy Time boasts four mini-games, enormous multipliers, and explosions of colour while giving you the chance to win up R5 000 000.

The Wheel

Crazy Time Wheel
The Crazy Time wheel boasts 54 segments.

Crazy Time’s format will be familiar with just about anyone. Simply put, a wheel comprising of 54 segments is spun by a presenter. A clapper oriented at 12 o’clock indicates which segment is the winner every round.

Look at the table below which illustrates how the segments are broken down and what sort of payouts each can trigger. We’ll expand a bit more on this later.

Segment Number of Segments Payout
1 21 1/1
2 13 2/1
5 7 5/1
10 4 10/1
Pachinko 2 Up to R5 million
Cash Hunt 2 Up to R5 million
Coin Flip 4 Up to R5 million
Crazy Time 1 Up to R5 million

The Game

Each game can be broken down into two distinctive parts – the betting round and the spinning of the wheel. Let’s take a deeper dive into each below:

The Betting Round

The betting round is a 15-second period before the wheel is spun. This time gives you the chance to take your bets. There are eight betting options displayed in a grid toward the bottom of the screen.

You can place bets on 1, 2, 5 or 10 as well as one of the four bonus games: Coin Flip, Cash Hunt, Pachinko and Crazy Time. There are also extra buttons that allow you to place a bet on all of the number segments as well as another to bet on all the bonus segments. Once the betting round is done, the presenter will spin the wheel.

CRAZY TIME BETTING AREA
The betting area works similarly to a Roulette table.

Spinning the Wheel and How Payouts are Determined

As the wheel begins to spin, the camera will pan out to show the Top Slot spin. For the Top Slot multiplier to be carried through, the two halves of the must line up along the horizontal line. If lined up, the displayed multiplier will be to the main game.

For example, if the multiplier indicates that the “5” segment has landed 10x multiplier, any bets placed on that particular segment will see payouts multiplied by 10 should the wheel stop on “5”. Worked out as 5/1 x 10 = 50/1. So if you bet R5 and this outcome materialises, you will win R250.

The Top Spin reels need to line up along the black line in order for multipliers to apply.

The Minigames

As mentioned earlier, there are four minigames available in Crazy Time. These account for nine of the 54 segments of the wheel – around 16.6% of the total area. Whenever the wheel stops on one of these minigame segments, the corresponding minigame will trigger. Let’s run through these below.

Cash Hunt

Cash Hunt hides multipliers of varying values (up to 1 500x) behind symbols. The presenter will pull a lever which shuffles these symbols. Once the shuffle ends, you’re required to select one of the 108 symbols on the board. Your selected target will reveal your multiplier which will be applied to your initial bet.

Coin Flip

This is – statistically speaking – the most common of the four minigames. Coin Flip occupies four segments on the Crazy Time game wheel. Mechanically simple, Coin Flip applies a multiplier based on which side of a coin lands face up after being flipped – the blue side or the red side.

Before the coin is flipped, the game will apply multipliers, one to the blue side and one to the red side. The coin is flipped with your payout determined by which side the coin lands.

Pachinko

Most players will be familiar with the idea of Pachinko. Here, multipliers appear at the bottom of a Plinko board. A puck is then dropped from the top of the board. If it lands on a multiplier, you will be paid out accordingly. However, should the puck land on “DOUBLE”, then all of the multipliers are doubled and the puck is dropped again.

There's a chance that all of the multipliers in Pachinko can be double should the puck land in the "DOUBLE" slot.

Crazy Time

The Holy Grail of Crazy Time is the aptly named “Crazy Time” minigame. The potential winnings from this particular game are astronomical. Of course, there is only one “Crazy Time” segment on the main wheel, so there is realistically only a 1.85% chance that this will land.

When this game is activated, a massive 64-segment wheel appears containing a host of massive multipliers. This wheel also contains three different flappers of which you need to select one.

The wheel is then spun and comes to a stop, the segment that your chosen flapper is pointing to will determine the multiplier applied to your winnings. If your chosen flapper stops on the DOUBLE or TRIPLE segments, all the multipliers on the wheel are doubled and tripled and the wheel is spun again.

If the wheel repeatedly stops and the DOUBLE or TRIPLE segments, and all multipliers have reached 20 000x, the DOUBLE and TRIPLE segments are also replaced by 20 000x multipliers.
