Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos believes that his team could learn from defending Rugby World Cup champions the Springboks, who are in France chasing an unprecedented fourth world title.

South Africa had just come off a dreadful uninspired 0-0 draw against Eswatini in front of an empty Soccer City in Johannesburg last Friday. This hollowness was quite fitting, as many local supporters are fed up with Bafana Bafana’s continued mediocrity.

Ahead of the squad’s departure for West Africa to take on the formidable Ivory Coast on Tuesday, Broos touched on the disappointment of last week’s result by referencing the might Springboks, South Africa’s golden child when compared to their football sibling. Chasing a record fourth Rugby World Cup title, South Africa had just overcome hosts and favourites France in a quarterfinal at the Stade de France in Paris that will go down as one of the greatest rugby matches ever played.

Broos said: “When you see, [Sunday] evening, the other team of South Africa [the Springboks], the passion and the way they are playing their game, I think we have a lot to learn.”
