The Webb Ellis trophy is said to be safe, following a robbery in the South African Rugby Union offices in Cape Town on Monday night.
Video footage of two suspects who broke into the office, rummaging through desks inside the SARU offices has been making rounds on social media, sparking concern of the whereabouts of the Webb Ellis trophy.
The South African Rugby Union later confirmed that all the major trophies, including the Webb Ellis trophy are safe and the robbers did not get to them.
Anti-crime activist and host of eNCA’s crime watch, Yusuf Abramjee shared the footage on X, saying among the stolen items were computers and Bok jerseys.

Parow police also confirmed the robbery in a statement, saying that two cases of business robbery were registered following two incidents on 2023-11-13 at about 20:00 at two companies (in one building) at a business premises in Uys Krige, Plattekloof, Parow.
“According to reports on the mentioned date and time two well-dressed males entered the business park and drove in a white Toyota Corolla to the offices of the business premises which is the last building in the business park.
“They then proceeded to force open a window on the ground floor and entered the building. At the first company five signed Springbok jerseys, whisky and eight laptops were taken. From the other company 60 laptops were taken. There after they left the building and drove away.” read the statement.

They further appealed to anyone who witnessed this incident or who can shed light on the whereabouts of the suspects to kindly contact the investigating officer Provincial Organised Crime Unit Detective Lt Col Adrian Pretorius on 082 777 8499 or alternatively call Crime Stop on 08600 10111.
