Boks benefit from Pumas implosion

The Springboks beat Argentina 24-13 in Buenos Aires on Saturday thanks in large part to Los Pumas’ ill-discipline. Despite the hosts’ conceded penalties count (14) being just one more than the world champions’, it ultimately cost them the Test match as the Boks were able to take control of the second-half and go on to win.

With the Boks’ World Cup squad set to be announced tomorrow, the likes of Canan Moodie and Andre Esterhuizen will fancy their chances of being selected after putting in great shifts at the Estadio José Amalfitani.

Wallabies concede 17-point halftime lead in Dunedin

New Zealand beat the Wallabies 23-20 after trailing 17-3 at the break in Dunedin on Saturday. Eddie Jones must have thought his side were on their way to their first win under his stewardship at half-time, but a typical All Black comeback stunned the men in gold.

Still, there will be much to build on for Australia, who the ever-pugnacious Jones believes will still win this year’s World Cup in France.

Upset home wins for Scotland, Wales

14-man Scotland and Wales each produced fantastic showings to put France and England away respectively. The Brave Hearts beat France 25-21 in Edinburgh while the Welsh outplayed Steve Borthwick’s England outfit 20-9 in Cardiff.

In the weekend’s other international rugby results, Ireland defeated Italy 33-17 in Dublin, Uruguay saw off Namibia 26-18 in Montevideo, USA claimed a 31-17 win over Romania in Bucharest, Fiji pumped Japan 35-12 in Tokyo and Samoa eased past Tonga 34-9 in Apia.
