Fassi has been a notable absence in the Sharks line-up in recent weeks following an ankle injury suffered in the United Rugby Championship match against Zebre on 19 March.

But Sharks coach Sean Everitt has revealed that the 24-year-old returned to the training last week, and he is hopeful of having the speedster back in the side for the massive URC clash against table-topping Leinster in Durban on April 23.

“We are hoping that Aphelele Fassi will be back for the Leinster game. We will have to see how his running goes before the game,” Everitt said.

“He started running on the field on Friday and there has been no repercussions. He has to get through a week of training and we will be able to make a decision.”

Fassi, who made his Springbok debut last year, is considered one of the most exciting backline prospects in the country.

While he has only earned two caps in the green and gold to date, he is being backed to make many more in the future.
