PREVIEW: 2023/24 German Bundesliga – Week 5

The two “form teams” of the Bundesliga, Bayern Munich, and Bayer Leverkusen both found themselves at a deadlock over the weekend, and as the Bundesliga hits the five-game mark, we should get a true reflection of every team’s form.

Last season’s title-hopefuls, Dortmund and Union have had a rocky start to the campaign, and it will be interesting to see where they add up as the Champions League eats into their respective squads.

Friday 22 September

9/20 Stuttgart | Draw 37/10 | Darmstadt 56/10 (20:30)

Darmstadt started like a house on fire netting three goals in the first half last time out, but an early red card in the second half saw them draw the fixture with Monchengladbach 3-3. At least they were able to break a three-match losing streak, but I can’t see them achieving anything against a high-flying Stuttgart who have found the back of the net the most times (14). Back the home side in all multiples.

Saturday 23 September

33/20 Augsburg | Draw 51/20 | Mainz 31/20 (15:30)

Mainz sit rock bottom after four Bundesliga games, and their struggling counterparts, Augsburg, are not much better off. Last season, Mainz were able to defeat Augsburg both home and away, yet without any clean sheet. Back both teams to score.

1/8 Bayern Munich | Draw 10/1 | Bochum 17/1 15:30)

Bayern Munich failed to keep Leverkusen at bay in their 2-2 draw last matchday. And even though the Champions League encounter may have taken a toll, Bochum is no match for the defending Champions. Back the home side to score in both halves at 4/10.

11/20 Dortmund | Draw 36/10 | Wolfsburg 42/10 (15:30)

Dortmund knows how to score goals, netting two goals on average per game this season. Wolfsburg are the toughest test to date for BvB, and although the odds say one thing, I can’t separate the two here. Both teams to score is the safer option at 5/10.

34/10 Monchengladbach | Draw 34/10 | RB Leipzig 7/10 (15:30)

If we’re talking about goals galore, we’re talking about RB Leipzig. All the Red Bull side knows is “foot on the gas” football, and if Monchengladbach are similarly asleep at the start of the fix like their latest blunder, we’re in for an early night. Confidently back the over 2.5 market.

9/10 Union Berlin | Draw 11/4 | Hoffenheim 28/10 (15:30)

Union resembles nothing like their former selves, and I’m tentative to even back them on home soil after their first Champions League outing. The draw no bet in favour of the home side is safer.

7/4 Werder Bremen | Draw 26/10 | Cologne 29/20 (18:30)

In January of this year, Cologne was colossal, carving Werder Bremen apart, but the start to this season hasn’t been up to scratch. Similarly, the departure of goal scorer Niclas Fuellkrag has dampened the sharp attacks of Werder. The draw is probable.

Sunday 24 September

2/7 Bayer Leverkusen | Draw 52/10 | Heidenheimer 8/1 (15:30)

An emphatic 2-2 draw for Leverkusen will spur the side on even further. There is a tangible sense of belief around Die Werkself at the moment and they are the banker of the weekend.

1/1 Eintracht Frankfurt | Draw 26/10 | Freiburg 5/2 (17:30)

Eintracht and Freiburg played each other on the final day of last season – Eintracht won 2-1. And although there is not much value on this week’s tips, get on the home side to repeat history at 1/1.

TREBLE @ 39/10

Stuttgart Win 9/20

RB Leipzig Win 7/10

Eintracht Win 1/1
