Blues and Reds looking to kickstart their season

Both Chelsea and Liverpool will be looking to get their respective Premier League campaigns off to the best possible start when they clash at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

Following a disastrous 2022/23 season for the Blues in which they finished an unthinkable 12th, Mauricio Pochettino has been tasked with returning the Londoners back to their usual standing toward the top-end of the EPL ladder.

Meanwhile, Jurgen Klopp will be looking to achieve something similar on Merseyside after Liverpool’s underwhelming performances in their last campaign led to Champions League exclusion.

With the last four matchups between the sides ending in 0-0 draws, will that record come to an end this weekend?

Another interesting sub-plot to this opening weekend thriller is the tug-of-war over the services of Moisés Caicedo. The Ecuadorian midfielder looked for all money like he was going to Liverpool after the reds tabled a monster bid for him on Thursday evening. Contracts had been drawn up and a medical was set-up before Chelsea came storming back into the race with an improved offer of their own.

At the time of writing, it appears as if the South American will be heading to London – a move he has always stated that he’s preferred.

Liverpool come into this game as favourites, despite being away from home. They’ve had a pretty good pre-season with Darwin Nunez looking like the real deal.

Chelsea, meanwhile, have lost their new centre-forward, Christopher Nkunku to a long-term knee injury. Their line will likely be led by untested Ivorian, Nicholas Jackson.
