Desh Parthab highlights a few stats worth taking note of before taking your Premier League bets this weekend!

Premier League

The midweek set of fixtures left much to digest ahead of this round of action. Southampton were handed just their second home league loss of the season by a Newcastle side that are undefeated since the turn of the year.

Watford showed us why they are in the relegation battle, having blanked for teh 14th time in the league this season, only Norwich (16) have done so more often. With little turnaround time, here’s what the microscope revealed prior to this weekend’s match ups!

Gunners Firing

Arsenal have won eight of their previous 10 league fixtures (D1 L1), claiming up 25 points from their last 30 on offer. No top-flight club has earned more points over their last 10 league matches than the Gunners (level with Manchester City). Mikel Arteta’s men are up against a porous Leicester defence which has shipped 25 goals on the road this season – only five Premier League clubs have conceded more on their travels. Whilst Saka and Lacazette have been leading the shooting statistics for the London Club, Thomas Partey has attempted a considerable nine shots over their previous three league outings. Furthermore, no Arsenal player has been fouled more than Partey during this period so he may just come up with the goods.

Magpies on the up

The Magpies are very much the form team since the turn of the year. Newcastle are unbeaten in their previous nine league fixtures, (W6 D3) – no top-flight club are on a longer current run without a defeat in the competition. Newcastle haven’t blanked in their previous five away league fixtures and come up against a Chelsea side who have drawn five of their last seven home league fixtures.

Gerrard’s Villa looking good

Aston Villa have won their last three fixtures in a row under Steven Gerrard for the first time since his appointment. Their strong results have coincided with Philippe Coutinho’s exceptional form in front of goal. The Barcelona loanee has delivered 4 goals and 3 assists in 8 league appearances for Villa, since making the swop. Since Gerrard’s first away match incharge of Aston Villa, only Manchester City (7) have recorded more away wins than Aston Villa (5).

Toney approaching milestone goal

Ivan Toney is set to break into double digits on the Premier League scoring charts this weekend. The Brentford talisman has been nursing an injury but was back with a bang, netting a hat-trick last time out which brings his goal tally to nine for the season. The Bees have scored just six goals across their previous eight league outings, with only one of them coming from someone who doesn’t go by the name of Ivan Toney.

Rampant City

Manchester City (13) are on the longest unbeaten away run in the league. Following their opening away league defeat to Spurs, City (W11 D2 L0) haven’t seen a league defeat on the road since. Furthermore, they’ve conceded just eight league goals on their travels this season – the fewest from all top-flight clubs.
