Jean-Philippe Gbamin missing from Everton’s pre-season trip

Wantaway midfielder Jean-Philippe Gbamin plus defenders Mason Holgate and Vitalii Mykolenko have not travelled with Everton’s squad for a pre-season training camp in Switzerland.

In May, Gbamin’s agent said the player did not want to return to the club after enduring a nightmare four-year spell decimated by serious injuries which has restricted the 27-year-old to just eight appearances.

The Ivory Coast international, whose contract expires next summer, has had unsuccessful loan spells at CSKA Moscow and, last season, at Trabzonspor.

Holgate, who made only four appearances following Sean Dyche’s arrival as manager at the end of January – with one of his two starts ending in a red card – was pictured training with the squad when they returned last week.

Mykolenko missed the final three games of the season with a muscle injury but featured in three matches for Ukraine last month.

Captain Seamus Coleman was not included in the party as he continues his rehabilitation from a knee injury sustained towards the end of last term but Dele Alli, who spent last season on loan at Besiktas, and Andre Gomes, who was farmed out to Lille by former boss Frank Lampard, both were.

Everton play their first friendly against Stade Nyonnais on Friday.

Chelsea reject Inter’s latest Lukaku bid

Chelsea have warned Inter that they must come closer to their £40m asking price for striker Romelu Lukaku, according to sources.

The two clubs have been negotiating Lukaku’s transfer for months, with Chelsea rejecting several offers from Inter.

Chelsea are determined to recoup a significant portion of their initial £97.5m investment in the player.

Inter’s attempts to secure Lukaku on loan were quickly dismissed by Chelsea, who only entertain the idea of a permanent departure.

A recent offer of around £30m from Inter has been turned down, and Chelsea are pressing Inter to increase their bid by another £10m.

Inter, constrained by a limited transfer budget, hope to avoid a hefty expenditure on Lukaku.

However, if the expected sale of Andre Onana to Manchester United materialises, it may provide Inter with more flexibility in negotiations.

Donny van de Beek considering his options as he eyes Man United exit

Donny van de Beek’s representatives have reportedly been in discussions with European clubs regarding the possibility of leaving Manchester United.

Since joining United from Ajax in September 2020, Van de Beek has struggled to secure a regular spot in the first team.

Behind Bruno Fernandes in the midfield pecking order and plagued by injuries, his fortunes have failed to improve under manager Erik ten Hag, who previously coached him at Ajax.

Although he returned to pre-season training after a January injury, the signing of Mason Mount has further limited his playing time prospects for the upcoming season.

Inter, Roma, and Milan, have shown interest in the 26-year-old, although he is not their primary target. In the Premier League, Wolves, Nottingham Forest, and Crystal Palace are monitoring the situation.

Barnes to Magpies not a done deal yet

Newcastle United still have work to do before finalising a deal for Leicester City winger Harvey Barnes.

Reports in the UK revealed the 25-year-old was back on the agenda for Newcastle last week and the England international is keen on the move. However, Newcastle’s budget means a bid to match Leicester’s £40million valuation may not be so swift in the making.

Manchester United and West Ham also like Barnes but Newcastle have done the groundwork. Ideally, they would offload players to help offset their spending. Allan Saint-Maximin has been discussed as a potential departure but the Frenchman has no firm move away in the pipeline as it stands.
