PREVIEW: Are Arsenal in the title race?

Our 9/1 treble last time out landed in emphatic fashion – hopefully you got on and made a fair few coin!

As always, we go again this weekend, the league gets underway nice and early with a Friday evening encounter before coming to an end with a clash of last season’s winners and runners-up! I’ve gone with a treble again this time, with extra incentive, so without further delay – let’s go.

Friday 14 October

2/1 Brentford | Draw 47/20 | Brighton 27/20 (21:00)

This is a tough game to call, Brentford are usually a stubborn team and playing at home will only make them harder to breakdown. Brighton went down 1-0 to Spurs last time out but their quality is unmatched, their players have shown a resolve and their new boss has already put his approach on display.

I don’t want to call a winner though, and I think over 2.5 goals at 1/1 is the play.

Saturday 15 October

12/10 Leicester City | Draw 49/20 | Crystal Palace 22/10 (13:30)

As soon as we start embarking on a quest to hoodwink ourselves into believing that Leicester is back, they show us a point. Leicester have been far too inconsistent for my money, and I simply cannot trust them.

Palace have been brilliant to watch. They are exciting going forward and have a sense of belief in their own ability. I think they win again here.

13/20 Wolves | Draw 28/10 | Nottingham Forest 42/10 (16:00)

I’m not sure the sacking of Bruno Lage was a decision needed by Wolves, as much as it was a knee-jerk reaction. They cannot score goals, so it’s a little baffling to understand their expectation to win. Forest seems a little disjointed now and the mood around the club doesn’t help.

Neither side gives me much confidence, so I’m going to favour under 2.5 goals at 15/20.

17/20 Fulham | Draw 11/4 | Bournemouth 32/10 (16:00)

It’s another tricky game this one. Fulham are largely dependent on individual players, but I get the feeling they are underestimated insofar as their ability is concerned. Bournemouth have shown they can take advantage of any errors made and so that makes them a threat against loose sides.

Both teams scoring seems our easiest route through. Get on at 15/20.

5/10 Tottenham | Draw 7/2 | Everton 52/10 (18:30)

Tottenham haven’t really got going this season, I still think they have a brilliant team and a fantastic coach…but they’ve flattered to deceive at times this season. They say that teams inevitably embody their manager and with Everton that’s spot on. They have grit and desire to succeed – even where they aren’t always playing as well as they can, the Toffees remain in the game.

I would have possibly been tempted by the away market but Spurs under their home lights and a run of five games unbeaten at home should edge it.

Sunday 16 October

37/20 Southampton | Draw 24/10 | West Ham 29/20 (15:00)

I fear for coach Ralph Hasenhuttl’s safety and security. The rumour mill is turning, and the little birds are chirping…he might be next to get the sack. The Saints have struggled so far this season, but I fear the media narrative around his side hasn’t helped him.

West Ham seem to be getting their groove back and with players like Jared Bowen starting to hit their straps again, Hammer’s fans will have reason to be upbeat again. Pile onto the away win.

1/1 Manchester United | Draw 11/4 | Newcastle 51/20 (15:00)

Surely, surely this is some sort of mistake? Manchester United are priced up at even money at Old Trafford against Newcastle…

Now before the cavalry get to me, allow me to explain. United have been brilliant at home since they beat Liverpool. They haven’t always played very well, but the intensity and energy they bring to the games is often unmatched.

Newcastle is good going forward and have the players to cause United problems, but I can’t see them winning. United and both teams scoring is my pick at 26/10.

44/10 Leeds United | Draw 33/10 | Arsenal 11/20 (15:00)

The way in which Arsenal have taken the game to Liverpool (and Spurs the week before that) has been world-class. They look more and more like a side who have a clear direction and identity.

I agree with the narrative in the media that Arsenal fans shouldn’t get ahead of themselves, but they have every reason to be confident about where their club is going. Oh, and they win this.

33/10 Aston Villa | Draw 26/10 | Chelsea 17/20 (15:00)

Chelsea is beginning to find their feet under Graham Potter, they are scoring goals and looking like a side with a clear understanding of their identity. Aston Villa, on the other hand, is difficult to interpret. Their fans are growing increasingly frustrated and I’m not sure they are achieving what they expected to have so far this season.

Chelsea win this.

26/10 Liverpool | Draw 31/10 | Manchester City 9/10 (17:30)
