Kaizer Chiefs’ Marketing Director, Jessica Motaung, has shared more details on where the club is regarding establishing a Women’s side that will likely play in the Hollywoodbets Super League.

For the past two years, Kaizer Chiefs have been trying to enter the women’s football space with strong indications that they will have one this season, but that has yet to materialize.

There are just four top-flight PSL sides with women’s teams competing in the Super League; Mamelodi Sundowns, Royal AM, TS Galaxy, and the University of Pretoria.

Motaung says Chiefs is close to joining these sides. “We were close to finalizing it and taking it forward. We still are very much in the works, and we’ll make an announcement when we are ready,” Motaung said, speaking to the media after announcing the renewal of their partnership with Medshield Medical scheme.

The renewal of the partnership for a further three years means Amakhosi could now have the budget required to establish a women’s side.
“I am not going to reveal the figures [of the partnership], but I can say that it’s a good partnership,” she said.

“This partnership is very important in our expansion … in expanding into the women’s game. We can only do that if we have corporate partnerships and partners willing to invest.”

Last week, South African Football Association (SAFA) president Danny Jordaan reminded PSL sides looking to compete in CAF competitions to launch women’s teams ahead of the 2023/2024 season.
