A total of 16 players from the league have been selected to represent SA on the global stage, adding to the league’s growing reputation for nurturing top talent.
The squad announcement was made by Banyana Banyana coach Desiree Ellis at a prestigious ceremony attended by distinguished guests this past week, including Minister of Sports, Arts, and Culture Zizi Kodwa and South African Football Association President Dr. Danny Jordaan.
Ellis expressed her gratitude to the players and staff for their hard work during the selection process and emphasized the challenges ahead of the World Cup.

“It has been a tough week. It might not have been easy for you as players, but it was also not easy for me as the coach. If I could, I would have taken everyone, but unfortunately, I can only take 23 players,” said Ellis, acknowledging the difficulty of making the final decisions.

Besides the 16 players in the 23-player squad, three more players from the league are on standby to step in if required.
