The FA has fined Manchester City £120 000 (R2.8 million) after their players surrounded a match official at their Premier League game against Tottenham on Sunday 3 December.
The team was enraged with referee Simon Hooper after he blew for a foul in the closing minutes of that 3-3 draw, after initially playing advantage, something which left Manchester City players furious, leading them to surround the referee and angrily questioning his call.
Sky Sports News announced the news of the fine and quoted the club saying: “Manchester City admitted that they had failed to ensure that their players did not behave in an improper way during the 94th minute. An independent regulatory commission imposed the sanction following a hearing.”
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola said the team has behaved incredibly this season and he wants to see his team do better in terms of their behaviour even if results or decisions aren’t going their way.
The team is currently in Saudi Arabia for the FIFA Club World Cup, and play their opening game against Urawa Red Diamonds on Tuesday.
