NEWS: South Africa well represented among CAF award winners

It was double delight for Nigeria as Victor Osimhen (Napoli) and Asisat Oshoala (Barcelona) won the Men’s and Women’s Footballer of the Year awards respectively on a memorable night for the West African nation. 

South Africa, too, was well represented amongst the winners at CAF Awards on Monday evening. Treble-winning Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies won the Women’s Team of the Year after a season that saw them lift the Hollywoodbets Super League, the CAF Women’s Champions League and the COSAFA Women’s Champions League. 

Remarkably, Desiree Ellis won the Women’s Coach of the Year for the fourth consecutive year. Percy Tau of Al Ahly who won the CAF Champions League with the Egyptian side bagged the Interclub Player of the Year. 

Thembi Kgatlana was among the three nominees for the Women’s Player of the Year. A full list of the winners below:

  • Men’s Young Player of the Year – Lamine Camara (Senegal/FC Metz)
  • Women’s CAF National Team of the Year – Nigeria
  • Men’s CAF National Team of the Year – Morocco
  • CAF Goal of the Year – Mahmoud Kahraba (Al Ahly vs Al Hilal)
  • Women’s Goalkeeper of the Year – Chiamaka Nnadozie (FC Paris)
  • Men’s Goalkeeper of the Year – Yassine Bounou (Morocco/Al Hilal Saudi)
