Bafana Bafana have enjoyed a splendid run of form since Hugo Broos took over as head coach.

They have overcome nations such as Sierra Leone, Botswana, Liberia and even the darlings of African soccer at the moment — Morocco.

But there remains a mystery as to why fans are not filling up the stadiums when the national team is playing.

On Tuesday, Hugo Broos’ men beat the Democratic Republic of Congo 1-0 on a nippy evening at Soweto’s Orlando Stadium. The win stretched the team’s unbeaten run to nine games. Man of the moment, Lyle Foster netted the winner.

before that, Bafana were held to a goalless draw by Namibia in what was basically an empty arena.

The second match against Congo saw the attendance rise slightly. The irony came from the fact that it was the visiting side with more fans that converged in Soweto.

The anticipation is building as Africa’s premier football tournament, the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), draws closer to its 2023 edition hosted by Cote d’Ivoire.

The draw for the group stage of the competition is yet to be made, but Bafana will face one of the top African football countries in the tournament.

The draw is scheduled for October 12, according to reports.
