Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos confirmed that he has no immediate plans to vacate his managerial role after reported interest in his services following an impressive Africa Cup of Nations.

Broos, who has been strongly linked with a position as technical director at Belgian side Club Brugges, spoke candidly to the media ahead of South Africa’s FIFA Series friendly clash against Andorra on Thursday evening.

“About Brugge, I know that I am a candidate, and there is nothing more than that,” said Broos.

“I know that in the Belgian media, they spoke about it, but, again, there is nothing for the moment, nothing at all.

“I heard rumours that Algeria were interested, that Tunisia were interested, and some other teams, also Brugges.

“But again, there are no negotiations. I didn’t see the people of Brugge. I know only that I am on the list and one of the candidates, so let’s see what happens in the future.

“I have a contract until 2026, so if there will be a moment that maybe I can leave or want to leave South Africa, then I still have to negotiate with SAFA.

“So, for the moment, it’s just rumours and nothing more.”

Meanwhile, Broos had furiously hit out at Mamelodi Sundowns counterpart Rulani Mokwena for suggesting that several players set to report for national team duty were injured.

“If they are really injured, they have to inform us and not talk with the press,” Broos said.

“I think we have a doctor, they (Sundowns) know that. They have the phone number of the doctor.

“So, why don’t they call us and tell us they are not able (to attend the national team camp) and give us a medical report?

“They didn’t do it, and that means they (players) are fit.”

The upcoming clash against Andorra kicks off at 23:00.
